Thanks everyone. Congratulate me when I actually have it, though!

This sounds good, Dario. Keep your eyes and ears open, if this is the one it's an awesome find, but I'll save my kudos until you are shifting those gears in Cali!
(still sending good vibes your way from the east coast though)!

Friday morning. Still need to book a flight because my parents want someone to go with me and they need to get back to me.

Southwest is probably the cheapest since Denver is a major hub. Get your brother to go and just buy him a coffee or something lol. Or tell him he can drive it for a little through the desert.

Both of my brothers are busy this weekend. Not only that, they are both against me buying an M3, so that would make for a miserable trip. :rofl
I am either asking a cousin of mine, or a friend that works for American Airlines and flies for free, which would save me the cost of one ticket.
But we've agreed on Friday morning time of arrival.

I can, but:
My parents don't want me to.
With two people, I can drive back home without exhausting myself or having to stop at a motel.

Dude I did it in the ZHP. and your drive from Houston to Sac isn't that bad. Get a cheap room for a night at the border of NM and NV, and make it into two 14 hour drives, with a two hour rest period at the seven hour mark. Have plenty of water with you and keep the temps cooler than you prefer to keep you alert.
You'll be back on Sunday morning. Hope you can work it out!

Bit of a bump in the road with the bank. Essentially, they want them to sell the car to me before I can finance it. It's ridiculous. They want a CA Smog on the car before they pay for it, when I'm buying it in Colorado.
???
Gonna see if I can borrow $13,000 from somebody and then refinance the car when I get it here.
So frustrated with this bank. >.<

Dad?
Another potential challenge would be if you are able to get that personal loan from someone and then get a loan from a bank once you buy the car, they may not give you a loan because you're not technically buying a car at that point since you'll already have it... unless, you take out a personal loan, which will have a much higher interest rate. :(

I can refinance the car under my current loan offer as soon as I bring it here. They said they'd let me do that.

Any big name banks that have branches locally and in Denver? That way they could hand over the check on the spot. I ran into this problem buying my ZHP where the bank wouldn't give me a check to fly and buy the car, but my credit union did. You can always refinance it immediately at a different bank of your choosing without hurting your credit.

No other bank wants to give me a loan. I suppose I could try but that would only negatively affect my credit should I be denied.

Okay guys, false alarm. Woman I spoke with this morning didn't know what she was talking about. However, it will take about another week. They won't cut me a check preemptively because I "don't quality" but I simply need to send a form to the seller that authorizes my bank to pay off his loan. Once I pay off his loan via my loan and cash out the difference through my bank, I need to wait about a week for the balance transfer to take effect, at which point I fly to get the car. There is some more paperwork I need to do, but this is definitely possible (although a bit of a headache), and I will be talking this over with the seller about this.

Yes. It's nothing I haven't done before, except this time, I know the car drives. Unlike the last cars I bought that were wrecked.

They are weird, but a lot depends on the shop and how strictly they will enforce regulations.

My offer still stands Dario, I can fly anywhere from Canada and then any US city back to Canada under my jet privileges. Let me know as it changes nothing for me economically to fly around North America. :mafia
And if it helps I have driven Vegas to Vancouver in one go (24 hours) with just a one hour nap. LOL. I have a certain diet that allows my body to handle that kind of long distance driving that I'm used to....I know my brain is weird...it's like I was born to drive. I do know when to stop if I'm a risk to the public and myself because I know what it feels like exactly and have scared myself a few times. Not anymore!! I'm older and more mature about pushing that limit.
Edit: even if you don't end up buying the car it's no matter for me, I'll just book a flight plan home and I'm home!

Dario, if this doesn't work out, my indie mechanic is planning to sell his E46 M3. It's in very good shape mechanically because he's a BMW mechanic who sometimes races an e36, but cosmetically it's not as nice as Jay's car and it's black, I think black on black. The previous owner put in an aftermarket stereo headunit. It's a 6-speed manual coupe. If the other one doesn't work out and you're interested, I will PM you his name and shop phone number.

If you can, I would talk to them over the phone. Emails are always a 'flaky' way of communication IMO. Talking over the phone is a better way of coming across serious, and will make the seller more interested in jumping through the hoops for you.

So, interesting twist today. I asked someone to pull some info on that car I'm buying and while it has a clean CarFax, the subframe has undergone really bad failure. As in cracks visible in the trunk failure. The good news is that BMW fixed and updated it, requiring 132 man hours on the job. >.<
Knowing that it went through subframe failure is disconcerting, yet knowing it was fixed by BMW is awesome. Not sure how to feel about it.

It should be very fine. You can be at peace that it's done and you don't have to worry about that every again!
My friend just about ripped the subframe from his '04 M3. The shop said the rips were very visible and one more launch would have made the backend fall on the ground in pieces. So $5K later of extreme fixing, his car is good to go and he's happy that he can once again flog his car like he stole it from the Devil. :)

+1 personally I'd feel better knowing it was cracked and then underwent complete and professional replacement and reinforcement than worrying about it's condition without looking at the car on a lift. Imho, wouldn't worry about it one bit. And if anything does happen, BMW did the repairs so maybe you could take the problem up with them, if an Indy did the fix then it would most likely be "good luck". The only downside would be that the car was flogged hard enough in the first place for the subframe to crack - and that there are most likely parts with accelerated wear and tear to be on the lookout for.

Well, I just got that signed form from them authorizing my bank to pay it off. I am going in tomorrow morning and the process will officially be underway (maybe even today). I'm super excited. Sellers are great. Price is good.
However, they did tell me that Colorado does not transfer plates (which is weird because a lot of states I've dealt with at work let you use them to drive home, then you toss them when you switch to home state plates) so I need to figure out getting a temp.
Dario. I will reiterate what others have already said. I would be happy the repair was taken care of and fixed properly. I worry about my car and that is the next major item I'm going to take care of in the next couple of months. Then my car will truly be bullet proof. Until a bunch of other shit breaks...

Wouldn't worry. I doubt BMW would sign off the car without it being safe. It was probably reinforced like crazy too. I wouldn't let it affect the sale.

Just make sure to flog it so the subframe drops out and rips from the undercarriage. Makes for easier access to part out.

What I don't understand is how BMW doesn't catch things like this during their prototype testing. Don't they flog the crap out of the cars for tens of thousands of miles? How did they not get any subframe cracks if these are so vulnerable?

You would think they would notice something like this... I wonder if the 3.91 diff on Dario's potential M3 sped up the wear on the subframe.
Rovert

I would say 3.62 is abrupt enough to shock the subframe. It's instant wheel spin when you throttle it without launching. I say with anything higher it's mostly just for bragging rights and make up for things smaller in your life. That's why I bought the ///M! :shifty

132h is not bad considering they replaced the trunk pan as well. It means the whole rear end came apart, removed the trunk pan, and rewelded a new piece in. I think they shouldve reinforced it with the structural foam as well.

If the maintenance has been done on the vehicle then it should be fine. You'll know if the car needs any suspension on PPI. You'll hear the engine when it's running and while driving and know of anything sounds rough or out of the ordinary. Hopefully you already know what a well cared for S54 sounds and runs like locally. If not try to test drive one or two before going. They are just as reliable as any car that has good preventative. My car has ran great in the 4K miles I've put on it.
The only thing that I would make sure you have on the drive is a tire patch kit with the tools to insert the rubber plugs and a working tire inflator which comes stock in the trunk under the floor. I can't remember if these kits have needle nose pliers to pull screws out of the tire but bring one since the one on the BMW trunk kit may not be fine point enough.

Dario. Not sure when you're flying out, but you're more than welcome to come up to Folsom or we can meet halfway sometime so you can drive the stick and see how it feels so you know before going out. I know you've been in a couple smg which at least gives you an idea of the metallic engine noise and idle hunt at cold start that M3's are known for. I'm camping until Monday afternoon, but should have cell service after that.

I'd love to. I have another M3 I can drive as well but the guy is in Thailand at the moment. Might be hard to compare a modded car vs. a stock car, especially with different rear end ratios, but I'm sure it'll be nice either way. I appreciate it, Sean!

I really wish 6th gear was really tall. The car has plenty of power in 6th at any speed really. If 6th was made so at 60mph, the engine just needed to turn 1500, I'd be happy! The ZHP 3.07 seemed happy in 6th at speed. The ///M just holds just high enough to make you want to floor it......again and again and again.

Made a phone call to a guy that carried a car for me some 2 years ago, and he referred me to his friend. He's ready to pick up the car tomorrow! Just need to hear back from the seller and see if they are finally cleared from the loan amount so that they can release it to me. If they give me the green light tomorrow, the car should be here by Thursday or Friday.
Much excite, very M3.

Holy crap! I take a 1-2 month hiatus and come back to see you've finally found what you're looking for! Congrats! It took a little digging in these pages but it looks great. I have yet to see more than one non-laguna seca blue E46 M3 in California so far, let alone cinnamon interior.

Probably two or three days. Depends on if they are heading straight to Sacramento or if they have a longer route for another drop.

Actually, he told me rear tires on cords already. First things are going to be new (or used) tires for it.

Was just beside a yellow sedan with the plate: F30 M3. He shot a black puff of smoke out the quad pipes and created a self made wormhole while disappearing into a parallel MLyfe!
