Small Injury :(

Got grazed by another car while parked in the boonies. After a weeks search, I found out that the person responsible was the aunt of the manager of the racquet club I instruct at. Apparently she didn't even realize that she did it. I've got her phone number and she's ready to pay for the repairs.
what is my best course of action? Repaint the bumper? Polish it out? I'll be bringing it to a shop on thursday for estimates.

My bumper is not longer sitting flush and a hanger is sticking out. Near the scratches is also a small dent that's hard to see.

Glad you found the culprit! Take it to a reputable body shop for a recommendation and estimate. She may want 2-3 as might you.

You either fix it...re spray entire bumper...(I don't think it's polishable), or live with it and pocket the cash for the estimate. I vote bumper re spray and fix hanger etc. it would be to hard to blend the paint on one portion of the bumper and easier for a body shop to pull the entire bumper off.

With a respray do I have to worry about the oem paint fading differently than the new paint?

I reported the incident to the club and gave a description of the person and the vehicle. It didn't take long for them to figure out who it was. The club was really eager to help me out, which was nice.

Well most shops can use your paint code but also can change it to match more closely to what your car is now. Kind of like the Ink dropper you use in paint to match colors. Plus with it having a gap between the bumper and fenders it will be much less noticeable anyways...they don't have to fade the paint, has a clean break between the two.

Dude... just leave it. It's a ten year old car. Pocket the money and use it for something else, and touch it up with OEM touch up paint.

I believe the bumper position is a result of the brackets, because they are adjustable. Get new brackets if broken, adjust till straight, and be done with it.

That's my opinion.

I would first attempt to have the bumper buffed. That should remove the majority of the scratches. If it is bad after that and it bugs you, then I would have the bumper painted. Nothing like fresh new paint/clear :headbang

IMO any issues with the exterior of the car even if it is a 10 year old car is an eye-sore to me and I can't stand to look at it.

Both bumpers on my e90 were damaged by other drivers. For the front one, I got $300. For the rear one, I got $1,050. I kept the money since I can live some some imperfections. :biggrin
