I've already posted most of these pics in another thread but I thought I'd start one to make sure I get a plug in for one of the site sponsors.....Coby Wheel.

Mike did an excellent job on my wheel wrap. I couldn't be happier with the work.

I also installed the OEM Alcantara e brake handle assy. from the M3 CSL/ZCP and got my shift knob wrapped by deadlysyns from M3forums. $35 for the shift knob wrap, PM me if you want his contact info. Part #34-41-2-282-661 for the e brake assy. Or contact Mike at Coby Wheel, he plans to be doing the shift knobs and e brakes in the future. He also has Alcantara armrest covers for sale.

Very nice, it looks great. I like how everything you need to touch with your hands to operate the car is now Alcantara.

LOVE it. But you're missing alcantara on the most important part: THE SEATS! :rockon

Joking aside - do you think this material will be more durable than the stock alcantara?

I would think that's a bad thing though, mostly because those items would have even more wear than they normally would get and require a lot more maintenance...
But it looks AWESOME! Question is, is it worth the extra maintenance?

THIS! That's exactly what I thought when I saw he went through the trouble for all this alcantara stuff...

I know, I know. When I was looking I wasn't so sure I wanted Alcantara seats but if I had a choice now I'd go for it. I certainly don't have any complaints with my leather. And it's easier to clean.:biggrin
Good question on the durability, afaik there is only the one company in Italy that makes it but whether they have ever made any changes to the secret recipe or not I don't know. Maybe Mike can chime in here? If not I'll check with him and see what he knows.
As far as extra maintenance, I cleaned my wheel twice in the 18 months I've had my car and it took maybe 10 or 15 minutes to clean so I'm not too worried about it. IMO an Alcantara wheel is one of the unique things that make a ZHP special. If the shift knob turns out to be a hassle or wears fast I'll just get a new leather one.

Oh yeah- that looks freaking amazing! Thanks Ryan! Ya, I didn't want to set the clock yet with it being so cold here. That whole clock set/trip meter mechanism just has a fragile feel to it.

I have to say I'm very relieved to find out I'm not the only one who's afraid to set the clock for fear of breaking those ridiculous little knobs!

srry to wake up an old thread. Time to change my old shift knob and thinking about coby wheel's alcantara shift knob. They have both OEM grey color and black alcantara, so which one is the correct color to match my steering wheel ? Is our ZHP wheel grey color ? I thought it is black, do I have color blind ? LOL

The shift knob in MrMaico's car looks grey and seems matching his new alcantara wheel. I can't believe my eyes cannot differentiate black and grey @@"

Coby calls it Grey. Here's the link:

If you get it done somewhere else I would make sure to reference the number.

Actually "Stock Grey". Big difference between grey and stock grey.

Guys, Coby wheel has only two choice for ZHP shift knob, OEM grey or black. I guess OEM means the original ZHP alcantara color which looks OEM black to me(not grey). Thats why I am thinking my eyes have the problem. The color code on steering wheel page has 9002 OE grey and 9042 OE black. Should I order the black or OE grey for the shift knob ?
drfreeman

Yes, 9002 grey is our factory color.
Then I assume the OE grey of the shift knob from cobywheel is our original color, not the black. Am I right ?

I am thinking the 9002 stock grey most closely matches.
Did the wheels originally come "jet black"? The word "stock" would make me think yes, but can't say I've seen them that black.

It's just the flash in my pics that make it look grey. Here is the same wheel (9002 grey) taken without the flash.......

OEM Grey will be the OE color that the car came with from the factory. No black. I had trouble telling differences as well when choosing my own wheel re-wrap. Here is my wheel now. OEM Grey with the black time stripe at the top

I think they are implying that those are the two colors that BMW uses, not necessarily for the original wheels, just in general in case you wanted to match something else.
My Performance hand brake boot is the black and my wheel is the 9002 Grey.

Very nice pretty wheel. It looks black to me without flash. So I guess OE grey means 9002 color.

This is a very nice pretty matching with black time stripe, yellow or blue looks too racy. Now I can compare two colors. Thanks !

wow that looks amazing, and $175 aint too bad either. Is this alcantara an upgraded quality from the oem E46 alcantara? I could imagine that shift know wearing out pretty fast.

I don't know if it's upgraded alcantara or not. Terra, (IIRC) has an OEM ZCP wheel and his feels a little bit different than mine. I did notice a difference in shift boots though. The boot from Coby seemed a lot thinner than OEM, but maybe because the OEM one had extra backing on it? Who knows.

both fabrics are oem (the one with backing and non backing) the one with the backing is really made for seats to make the fabric slightly stiffer(not much stretch) the oem boots mostly have the backing probably because they use the seat material just to not have deal with 2 different fabrics(as far as ordering) when it comes to the oem Alcantara wheels about half of the ones i wrap(oem from BMW) have the backing and half have the "non'' backing the ones with the non backing are a little softer because they use a small layer of foam underneath the fabric but the ones with the backing are just glued straight onto the hard rubber wheel so those type will be stiffer.

How do you decide whether to use the backing or non-backing fabrics? Is it random, or do you do it by request?

i dont use it at all (except for orange/ gulf fabrics only carried the backing type) i like the stretch of the non backing so i can get the wheel covers nice and tight/ also when you cut the one with the fabric backing you can see the white edges so on wheels that is just one more issue to deal with.
