View Full Version : Polyurethane differential bushings

My carrier bushing on the diff is in desperate need of replacement. I'm debating on replacing all of the bushings while I have the diff out. I'm wondering if it's beneficial to replace with polyurethane or just stick with the rubber HD replacements from meyle. I don't want to put more stress on the diff as a result of the stiffer bushings but if this will not cause added stress and may be easier to put in I may go with those.

Anyone have some input?

Sorry if this is in the wrong section wasn't sure where to post it.

Just go with regular bushings in my opinion.

90A from AKG should be steetable enough for you.

And do the subframe bushings while you are at it. Upgrading the bushings will only send the force into the next bushing in line. Get the same or higher rating. Never the opposite.

Recommend oem bushing for the differential. Anything more will cause slight noise and a whine noise.

I have the AKG 90A diff bushings and do not notice any whine. However, I have the stock subframe bushings and assume once I upgrade those, there might be a little diff whine. Also my poly transmission mounts and solid rubber motor mounts give me some extra cabin noise that might mask slight diff whine, though the motor/trans vibrations are most noticeable below 1000 RPM and I assume diff whine is louder at higher speeds.

If not upgrading subframe bushings, I would get the Myele or OEM. But realize that OEM rear diff bushing tends to fail periodically. I believe my car had at least two fail in 185,000 miles.

I'm probably just going to stick with the meyle bushings for now.

Hornung are you saying the meyle HD replacements will place more stress on the subframe bushings or is that just with the polyurethane ones?

Would not go with any Meyle products. I've read written accounts where #9 fails in 15 miles after replacement. I would look for Lemfoerder replacements.

I would suggest going with a harder compound for the actual subframe bushings. Less movement proves to be more effective with the subframe damage. I know BP had all his bushings done with poly and there is a decent amount of whine that he doesn't like. Eventually he got use to them.

Yikes... Well I ordered the meyle HD for the rear carrier bushing and it is already on the truck along with the front two bushings. The two for the front of the diff however are lemförder.

Should I send the meyle back and not even bother putting it on the vehicle? :(

Anyone have any input on if I should have them send me a lemforder? I don't want to put the meyle in if its just going to give me problems again soon down the road.

Thanks

Send them back. I wouldn't risk it. I've heard some bad stuff.

Alright fair enough. Luckily only one was meyle and not all three.

You ever get these installed?

Yeah they went in fairly easy as long as you can reverse the puller you used to get the old ones out to put them back in just make sure they're lined up before you start putting torque on it. I used side stp oil additive to help them slide in. Doesn't take much but that stuff is really slippery so it helped a lot.

You went with the plain rubber bushings correct? Thanks :)

I too am looking at diff bushing options. Really confused on what to get.

For the hell of it, I asked ECST chat what's up with meyle. Not surprised by the response.

I wouldn't care to trust the warranty on them if they weren't such a PITA to get back out.
