I have a chance to buy a 2004 ZHP with 33k for $16.9K. Grey with cloth interior. Only other options are cold Weather Package and Xenons. Car is very clean. offered at Carmax. Sounds like a very good deal but is it? I would appraiate any thoughts. Should i buy it?

Pics? Clean Carfax? Maintenance history? Warranty possible through Carmax? Just because it's low miles doesn't mean it's perfect; 10 years is a long time!

A car that's been sitting around somewhere for the last decade could be significantly worse than a higher mileage car that's been well cared for. That said, if it's what you want then based on the limited info I'd say go for it.

Price seems high to me, but I know they don't negotiate. And it certainly beats what EAG would ask! My local indy shop does work on Carmax's euro cars and speaks highly of their warranty--said it's one of the best extended ones he has seen.

Buy it. Worry about maintenance afterwards as long as it checks out clean.

As long as we are not just 'rehashing the bashing', this could and should be a useful thread.

Sounds like a deal if its clean!

I too have read amazing things about the Carmax warrenty. someone on Jalopnik bought a Land Rover and bought the Carmax warrenty and has gotten his monies worth out of it. Definitely look into it in addition to the car.

+1. Price seems good if the car checks out, esp. with only 33K miles. It is very hard to find a low-mileage ZHP these days!

Thanks for the input, having trouble with pictures (only because I'm electonically challenged) clean Carfax (two owners, first being a 1 year personal lease, both in Baltimore area, Carfax shows annual registration with miles slowly moving up), manual trans, steering wheel is Alcantara showing only minor wear. Except for some small stone nicks in the front, car is very clean for a 10 year old car. No curb rash on any of the tires.

As for me I currently own: 1988 M3 with 203K miles (daily driver for 22 years with only occassional track use), a 1998 323is, and a 2007 335i convertible. All cars have manuals. I'm also a former club racer and instructor of 930s. I'm looking for a daily driver with some power, but not too much. Too much will simply get me in trouble. The ZHP seems like the right mix for me.

Price is good for 33k miles, if it checks out okay.

A ZHP with 33k, cloth and a stick? Buy it now! If you ever want a bit more power, you can always toss in an ESS S/C.

Carmax and Fidelity are two top aftermarket warranties at the moment, if it checks out good I say this is a steal of a price.
