I had two cracks like that, one on front, one on rear. One was welded up by a wheel shop, nice and strong but ugly as they left additional aluminum on inner barrel for extra strength. Other one I drilled hole at end of crack, hacksawed a slot where the crack was, and filled it with some epoxy. So far it's held up several months, but I wouldn't call it a professional repair...

Edit: on the welded rim, the ugliness is on the inner lip so only apparent when you take the wheel off the car.

I had this happen on a ultralight weight Honda wheel once. Shortly after leaving the tire shop with new tires one tire went flat. Drove imeadiately back to the tire shop. They accepted fault for cracking the wheel during installation and ordered me a brand new rim at their cost which was about $200.

found out today that my front passenger side rim was cracked. car was pulling to the right over the weekend so I added air from 22 psi back to 37 psi. checked it at lunch today and it was at 35 psi. had it looked at today after work and that's when they showed me the crack and a very very slow leak. hit a huge pothole about a month ago that destroyed the front passenger tire, so I went ahead and got two new tires for the front. two weeks later or two weeks ago hit another pot hole. I thought the tire was gone but it was fine, it's the rim this time. long story short BMW wants 432.66 for a new rim. getting mine welded for 85 bucks tomorrow at a place called the wheel dr. Who was recommended by BMW, so just get yours welded its cheaper than getting a used one and probably stronger.

What makes these wheels weaker than others? Do other 18s have similar issues?

my guess is that it is the casting process or the material itself some sort of alloy maybe that tends to crack instead of bend, or maybe they become brittle overtime. I'm really not sure.

They are just weak wheels.

I disagree I would be willing to bet money that a regular rim would bend before these rims would crack

3 of my 135s are damaged. 2 bent, one cracked. Vas just sold his set, and there were bends as well. Almost every for sale ad for style 135s has bends or cracks. Plenty of people here have bent or cracked their 135s.

Just because a wheel is thick and heavy doesn't mean it's strong. Don't let the impression of weight and heft fool you into thinking that the 135s are durable wheels. They are not.

I have hit worse potholes with other wheels than what cracked my 135 without suffering any damage, including other BMW wheels.

One of my D-force LTW 5 wheels (lightweight, semi-forged rim, cast spokes) bent the inner lip on a pothole somewhere but didn't crack. Two of my 135s cracked but didn't bend. I assume 135s are just cast so that makes the lip/rim a bit brittle.

perhaps you are right, its just a damn shame that this happens to these rims. I really like the way they look. I also like the look of those BBS rims too. they make the car look strong.

I'd say $400-$600 is pretty normal

I have a set of 135's that are currently on my ZHP. I was thinking about getting some new rims soon. I would be willing to let these go for around $400. They have some curb rash on each rim. As far as I know there are NO cracks or bends.

Thank you sir, I have already committed to purchase some in good condition:idea, but I will let a fellow bimmerphile know as he has told me he'd love to have some 135s.
Do you have them posted anywhere on craigslist maybe?

I bought a set at Bimmerfest from a fellow mafia member. Here's a curious thing though. the "newer" rims look different on the inside of the wheel. They have all the same text "Made in Austria" the offset, diameter, width etc. BUT where the wheel's mating surfaces differ as do the design on the inward side of the spokes. (The dirty one is my original).:dunno Seems to me that my OG wheels looked to be more quality?
