View Full Version : WTB: ZHP 6MT in South Florida

Ok I know this is a long shot seeing how two other FL members are having a hard time finding a ZHP but I am looking to buy a ZHP in the South Florida region. Can be Coupe or Sedan and any color, packages or year. Main thing to me is it being clean and well maintained with documentation. I am located in Miami and will make the drive for the right car.
Looking for:
-Must be 6MT
-Coupe or Sedan but NO convertibles please
-Any Color and Packages
-Well maintained and have documentation to back it up. Looking for major things like cooling system, VANOs fix, suspension refreshes, has had inspections I and II done and so on. Miles doesn't matter to me as much as upkeep.
Let me know what you guys have/find, thanks!

Keep in mind, you can buy a last-minute plane ticket to just about any state in the lower 48 for a few hundred dollars. That's a worthwhile investment for the right car.

Yep. I flew to Dallas for mine. 3 hrs notice. Scrambled. Flew and drove back in same day...8 hr drive getting to know my zhp. Love at first drive.

Yep, I see a long drive or a short flight in my ZHP buying future lol. People don't really take good care of their cars down here in Miami. I went to check out a Imola Red 6mt ZHP sedan this past Sunday and it turned out to be a POS lol. I wouldn't have bought it for even 7k it had so many issues and headaches. I was also a little disappointed with the power and handling and even the steering but I'm hoping it was just this one bad example with a weak engine (maybe VANOs going bad?) and shot suspension and bushings and that a well maintained ZHP is a world of difference better in those departments!

I'm looking for a stock car, not looking to pay for mods and upgrades I don't want/need so my budget is around $12,000. Again I'm not looking for a mint 06 with low miles. 03-04 with decent miles is fine with me as long as the upkeep is on point.

Sounds good man, I was just messing around. Honestly, as others have said, you'll have to drive to find that car. I located my current car in NC, not too far, and a really enjoyable drive home. My first ZHP was in NY...
Honestly, the hard part about South Florida is the fact that there is a ton of money in the area. E46 BMWs are getting hard to locate as they aren't very new anymore. I'm sure you've noticed, but a huge part of the population always has the newest cars, so by the time a car is 5-8 years old, its already been forgotten. Heck, I've already seen a ton of modded 4 series coupes now, and they were JUST released...
So, look elsewhere in the country, you'll find the right car. There are plenty of good, honest people on here that will inspect and test drive a car that's near to them. I had a guy do that with my car and he replied with over 30 high quality pics of the car, and a VERY in depth review. I couldn't be happier.
Good luck buddy, and hopefully we'll meet up soon!

Searched for a month for ours. Blk/Blk auto (wife's car). Looked everywhere. Even did a 6 hr drive to NC and looked at one that turned out to be a POS. Finally searched CL and found one in Kansas City on a Wednesday. Wife flew out that Friday and she put a deposit on it Saturday. Seller had some things to take care of with the paperwork, so I flew out 2 weeks later and drove it home. 14 hours total....
Finding the right one may take a while and you will probably have to travel as others have stated.

I am glad the Mafia approves of my search requirements:thumbup hopefully I come across a nice car soon so I can be a true member of the Mafia. I haven't been on here long but I can tell that this forum has a great community of members compared to other car forums, and I've been on my fair share of car forums over the years lol.

It all good dude! And you nailed it right on the head about South Florida! People just dont take care of their cars, they just toss them and buy new ones and most people seem to be just driving new leases to make themselves look good. I agree totally with the 4 series coupe thing, the first one I ever saw was a Estoril Blue 435i Msport and it already had douchey blinged out rims on it (and probably a tune too) but at the time there wasn't any commercials or any marketing that the car was even released already lol! It can be a bit frustrating, but yeah I'm not expecting to find my ZHP locally anymore.

Hey, Bello thanks for the link man! It does look good and its not a bad drive either maybe 3-4 hours for me. Only thing is I work Mon-Fri and the 15th is this Thursday...if he had till the 17th Saturday I would make the trip to check it out with cash in hand and see how low he will go since he says he needs it gone asap lol. Now I wonder what happens to the car after the 15th, I would text/call him but he left no phone number but Ill shoot him an email him in the meantime.
EDIT* Looks like he edited the ad and now its $10k firm...hmmm

Yep he replied to his e46fanatics thread last night around 8:30pm saying it's sold. I wonder if the buyer was a local person or someone who made a long drive road trip/took a flight. I mean that was pretty quick lol, I didn't even get a chance to setup a meeting with him.

I exchanged a few PMs with him on E46F. I was able to get the VIN, run the Cfax. Car started its life in CA, made it to OK, then to FL. Had a small accident reported in 2004. Owner said the rear left quarter panel was repainted. Probably backed into something.
He was moving from FL to GA. I attempted to give him a deposit via Paypal for him to hold it until he got to GA so I could see in person, but I guess I was too late.

lol I see how true that statement is now, you guys weren't kidding at all. But I still wasn't expecting it to get scooped that quick since the car was in the middle of central florida and not in one of the bigger cities either. But yeah just like you guys said people will make the long drive to get a good clean ZHP especially one that was so well priced as that one. Oh well the search continues, maybe next car to pop up near me will be a coupe :biggrin

Ok guys I texted the Tampa ZHP owner and it turns out its actually a dealer, even though the ad looks like a private seller. And he doesn't have any maintenance records or history for the car since it was a trade in. So I asked if he was willing to have the car taken for a PPI and he said sure, and told me of a local BMW dealership.
Ok so I need the Mafia's help and experience for going about conducting this long distance PPI and purchase. What are my next steps? I figure I contact the BMW dealership first and setup the appointment and find out the costs. But also when do I negotiate the pricing with the dealer that has the car? And whats to prevent him from selling it to someone who walks onto his lot right after the PPI that I spent money on while I'm still in Miami? Thanks

I hate it when a dealer does that. Contact one of these shops and see what they charge and what they look for. In my experience it's about $100 for a once-over with drive, code reading, and visual inspection. I'm sure they will go deeper if you pay (compression test, etc).
You need to put down a refundable deposit pending PPI (credit card would be best so you can dispute it if needed).

Here's his email reply:
"Yes car is still available as far as records I haven't kept much of that. I could probably try and pull some invoices off the internet of the parts I have bought most of which were either bought from pelican parts or ecstuning. The car was under aftermarket warranty since I bought the car so when things popped up i took it to tom bush to fix them (if it was covered under warranty). I have not done anything to the cooling system since I have owned it. Suspension wise control arms were replaced around 48k miles. Since I've owned it the following was fixed at dealer under aftermarket warranty. All window regulators and valve cover gasket and control arms when I first bought it. I have done the followong myself with either OE parts or high quality aftermarket. Rear brakes pads and rotors, oxygen sensor, DISA valve, PCV system, upper lower intake boots spark plugs and most recently a new Bosch alternator. Always used OEM BMW oil or BMW approved oil. This is the second BMW I have owned. First E36m3. Both have been great cars. I'm a vw guy and have 4 cars right now. So I'm trying to down size. Let me know if you have any question or want to come see it. Its not perfect but its nice and low mileage."
Let me know what you guys think. Also is anyone here in the area that can possibly check the car out for me? Thanks

I go to school in Orlando but I live in South FL, so I'm down for the summer. Not sure if you got my PM or not but I sent you a PM on 6/25 saying that I will be in Broward for a couple weeks along with the maintenance records you requested.
If you haven't seen it, check it out but as I stated I'm not sure if I want to get rid of it but I will for the right price. Let me know.
Heres the updated ad btw:

2 hours... You can't expect to find the perfect ZHP locally. If you do, you'll be sorely disappointed, or you'll wait forever...
Thanks Joop!

Yeah agree completely. Nobody will tell you guys what to do, its just frustrating to see someone pass up on PLENTY of great cars because they insist on finding something local, and then trash talking the local people that do have great cars... I am pretty sure all of the good ZHPs in South Florida originated elsewhere...

Dude your attitude sucks. There are a ton of clean cars in the Southeast... There is a clean AW sedan on craigslist for $15k. I know the owner, great guy. And it's AW, super hard to find in a 6spd sedan.
yea problem is I ONLY WANT A COUPE 6mt not a sedan lol

Contacted this person via text. Stated he got this vehicle in a trade for a Hyundai. He says he works for a dealership named Car Konnect. Facebook page no longer up but cache showed activity a month or two ago. Could not find any info on this place.

Wow i was just on Craigslist last night before i went to bed, both Miami, Tampa and Orlando Craigslists and didn't see this lol. Looks nice but has alot more miles than I'm looking for, maybe worth checking out if they can flex on the price. Ill let you guys know if the maintenance checks out thanks!
EDIT* noticed the car is listed as a 2005 but has an alcantara steering wheel, isn't that odd? Shouldn't it be a perforated leather wheel if it was a 05?

I think there is some discrepancy as to when the wheels were changed over.

Ah ok cool thanks guys, one more question for you experts...the front of the car looks odd but i cant put my finger on it. I think its because the grill and reflectors have been sprayed Imola Red? What do you guys think? Ive also messaged the owner see if he had maintenance records, no response yet.

Ok cool yeah its not my liking. Anyway heard back from the guy and just as I suspected its not actually a private owner but a dealer....-_-
He says the car is for sale on consignment for a customer..not sure what that means. So I still asked for maintenance records but being a dealer car my hopes are very very low that it has the required items such as cooling system, vanos, suspension and bushings and whatnot. I see this car endeing up being a non-starter for me.

Consignment is not necessarily a bad thing. Means the owner should be available to proved history, etc.

So I asked the dealer selling the 153k mileage IR coupe to email me the maintenance records and instead of doing that he texted me late last night telling me he got a deposit for the car -____- give me a f**king break with this....

Ive was going back and forth with this guy like a couple months back. To be straight up hes asking too much and is basically trying to turn the car around and make a profit. He bought the car last December for about $10k (search e46fanatics youll find the PO fs thread) and all he did was add some angel eyes and splitters. He didn't do a cooling system overhaul (which at over 100k miles and 10 years old is almost a requirement) and the car is still on stock suspension and bushings, so he didn't add any real value to the car to then ask $5k over what he paid, let alone the car now has more miles and an extra owner on its history...no thanks. BTW he was asking $15k for the car before he even added the BBS wheels...

When I bought the car, it was a little under priced ($10,500), so I figured I'd make a few bucks on it since I decided to sell it. I didn't know it was a crime to flip the car for a little profit. Since I've had it I've added the angel eyes, splitters, BBS wheels, two oil changes, oil pan gasket, oil filter housing gasket, FCAB's with the Z4M bushings. When I took the car to the dealer, I specifically asked them about the cooling system and I was told that I don't need to touch it yet and it hasn't given me any problems, so I haven't done the overhaul yet. Same goes for the suspension. I told you that I would drive the car down from Orlando for you to LOOK at it and we could work something out if you're interested and said don't worry about it since you're on the fence about getting a ZHP. When I got down to So Flo for the summer, I sent you another PM to let you know I was in town if you wanted to check it out and you never replied via pm nor did you reply to me directly when I commented in your thread two weeks ago. I originally had it at $15,00 OBO and it has since been dropped to $14,000 OBO.
I have no problem if you're not interested in the car but don't act like I wasn't straight up about the maintenance/condition of the car or open to work with you to negotiate at a lower price. Anyways, good luck with your search.
