we took the ZHP sedan on its first Slater Family Road Trip over easter weekend. we covered roughly 710KM (~445 miles) and averaged 32.5mpg @ 120km/h (75mph) over the course of the trip - amazing! many thanks to 6th gear.

anyone else getting similar mileage? the car has 109K miles, is a 6MT and the only mod is an aFe Pro Dry S filter (my 6MT coupe with 224K miles gets similar mileage with the stock intake, FWIW).

i'm just floored that a car with such good driving dynamics and performance can also carry the family in comfort AND get great fuel economy.

I usually get 29ish on highway trips, but due to speed limits down here I am usually traveling at 80 to 85 which is the flow of traffic.

32mpg is excellent.

My average is 18mpg...taking the back way to work at 5am is the problem, not a lack of maintenance...

I average around 23-24 mixed...I don't mind that though because I like to "drive" the car...I didnt buy this car as a prius prospect..:guns2

But could prolly get more just crusing...32 sounds great fully loaded!

well, yeah! the car gets to redline several times per outing - that 32.5mpg included at least 10 trips to 6800rpm. :) and i wasn't "trying" to hypermile or anything, it was just a normal family road trip. i'm pumped - especially with gas going over $5.50/gallon here lately - yikes.

Dane, was that calculated or via the onboard comp? What speeds are you averaging?

Whoawhoawhoa. 5.50? FIVE fifty?

Ah canada. Gotcha.

Whys it so much more there? Taxes?

slater
04-24-2014, 03:52 PM
yep. i think taxes comprise 40% of the price at the pump.

but we have great healthcare - my son broke his wrist two weeks ago.... we drove straight to the ER and got xray'ed and cast'ed. total cost to me? $0.

Yeah the prices are garbage right now. The worst gas stations in the city are charging $6.25 right now, it peaked Tuesday at $6.40 and it's going down a bit.

32.5 is amazing! On random trips at 80 mph I usually can't get above 28. 3.46 diff :shifty

Nope. That's what makes the auto fast. Lol

...that' makes sense! That's why our mileage is worse..the 3.64 final drive..o well car pulls hard :roundel

I get 33 mpg on a regular basis if I keep it right around 70 or so. I have gotten 35 on a 6 hour drive to sc one year. I was milking it though easing off on the uphills and picking back up speed on the downs. Makes a difference but not really a fun way to drive the vehicle. If I don't give it too much attention I get around 31 or so. Not bad for 220k.

Hmm. I have actually been really disappointed with my MPG so far. 16mpg city, 25 highway, with the AT. Admittedly aggressive driving in the city, but not on the highway (which was a seperate road trip, seperately tracked)

Tire pressure is right at the "fully loaded" specs from the manual.

I'm going to try the techron treatment (BMW fuel injector cleaner) this next tank and see what happens.

But even the dirtiest injectors can't be affecting me THAT much, right?

Any thoughts?

Fuel filter should also be changed every 50k or so.

My Auto ZHP was getting 22.5 mpg when I bought it with 98K. After doing the fuel filter, plugs, intake, Vanos, DISA and Mechanical Fan Delete I'm consistently getting 25.0 mpg. That's a mix of highway and city driving. On a trip from Vegas to LA to see John I got 28 mpg. Not bad.

Yea I avg 23 consistently mixed. I usually get 26-28 hwy interstate driving. I also find it weird that I get better mpg driving 76-79 than I do 70...strange ...need to do fan delete...it's on the list
