New Mafia Member from South Florida

Hi all! Name's Dave and I'm from South Florida. My car is a 2004 coupe and I've had it for just over two years. I got lucky and found one with COMPLETE original owner documentation since day one...every service/repair etc. is all documented and this thing was a completely stock garage queen. Well...not any more :-)

I'm a track day enthusiast so I set out to build what I consider to be the perfect dual purpose dd/track car...

Like many guys here this isn't my first BMW but it's definitely my favorite.
A little about me: I'm a firefighter/Paramedic and I live in Palm Beach, FL. I grew up in Detroit and I've been a car guy since before I could drive. I love driving...almost as much as I love working on cars/motorcycles. I've never done any actual racing but I've been doing track days in cars and motorcycles for the last 8 years or so. There's nothing I'd rather spend a weekend doing than pushing my machines to their absolute limits on the track.
Anyway, I look forward to meeting some of the "family" and I hope the last two years I spent underneath my car might allow me to contribute to the forum. In my career as a firefighter and in my garage I love solving problems and I'm always up for a good challenge. I'll get my sig set up in the next few days and I'll put together more detailed info on my car and post it up with pics. In the mean time just wanted to say hi!

BTW, last night I was browsing the forum and I found a thread where you and someone else were recommending an ad I had placed on craigslist to trade my silver cube for black cube...I was thinking oh here's someone who had the same idea as me... Then I saw my phone number...just thought it was funny and cool that you guys look out for each other. Too bad nobody called, I still want the black cube trim! Anyway, yea let's start a a Florida ZHP meet! I've seen a handful down here.

Ahh Delray... I just blew through there as I had to drop my Dad back down to FLL airport after his visit. Yeah, I've been to PBIR a few times now, not yet in the ZHP though. Most recently was for a Bentley test drive event (pics located here, you'll recognize the track in the vids)... As for the 12th, I think I'm scheduled to leave and go back to work that day, so I don't think I'll make it.

Anyway, I'm sure we can arrange an impromptu meeting before I leave. If nothing else, we can probably just make some plans to get together and hang out. I'd love to check out your car and talk more about track days. I've been looking to get into some more events when I can...

Thanks Tucci...the car is already set up. I tried to get the best mix between track performance and street comfort. It's definitely not that comfortable on the street but it's a blast to drive. Luckily the roads are pretty good down here so the stiff springs/shocks aren't too uncomfortable. I'm going to put together a thread one of these days with everything I've done to the car (and it's a lot :-). In the mean time if you have any specific questions let me know... I'd be glad to help out any way I can.

Welcome Dave! Curious to know what tracks you usually enjoy for your various HPDE events? Are there enough spots to keep you entertained in Florida, or do you trek north on occasion?

I've only been to Palm Beach international Raceway and Homestead Motor Speedway. I'll be doing a track day at Datona in either October or December and I really want to race at Sebring. Definitely planning on traveling around the country in the future. I do track days on my 2012 Triumph Daytona 675R as well. In fact I'm planning on doing a "track weekend" on the 12th and 13th at PBIR. Saturday in the car and Sunday on the bike! Believe it or not I'm still not bored with these two tracks even though I've been frequenting them for 7 or 8 years... I definitely want to branch out to some different tracks soon.

Sounds good to me. I would agree that repetitive visits to the same track will give you a chance to improve your skill, proper lines, improve speed and car control. I was really curious which tracks people like to frequent in Florida. If you ever have a chance, VIR comes highly recommended! Good luck with the upcoming HPDE events. Just remember, shiny side up!

Dave, definitely interested in meeting up and getting your help/guidance with getting to some track days. I've been on PBIR a couple times (both were manufacturer test drive events) and I've been around Sebring during the BMW parade laps at the recent 24 hour race. A great track, one I'd love to get to do at speed...

Anyway, look forward to seeing your car one of these days.

Thanks for having me over Jon. It was nice having a couple guys to talk to that know so much about these cars. The most common conversation I've had about the car prior to Saturday was the "Duh, is that thing an M3?"... Pretty soon I aspire to read and contribute to some other threads here besides this one :-)
