Plasti Dip + E92 M3 wheels + ZHP = You Decide!

I dunno, I haven't been super happy with my E92 wheels since i got them. They look good, but I just felt empty inside. So today boredom got the better of me and this is what I ended up with.

Thinking of adding a red strip around the edges.

Thoughts?

I think it looks good. Honestly had the wheels been the silver like standard zhp wheels they would have looked better than the machine face finish.

Looks good on that car. I'd prefer the stock finish though. Not sure I'd go for the red strip either.

No red stripe! The plasti-dip is OK but silver is always class.

I think the black contrasts against the silver really well. Leave them black without a red stripe!

I dipped my son's coupe that way before we sold it. He and the buyer both liked it.

Personally I like the wheels but really don't like black. You can't see the detail.
With the factory finish, I feel it would look superb.

Looks Good! My buddy did the same to his rims on his new 135 but painted them while on the car! He got overspray all over. :rolleyes

He painted his black also, his car is black with dark tinted windows and it looks pretty good.

What process did you use to spray these?

Agreed. 7-8+ light layers from a can. Use a trash bag split down the middle to cover the brakes, etc. check out dipyourcar.com

Probably easier to remove the wheel? That's what I would do.

I just pulled my wheels and sprayed in the garage away from cars and any wind that may want to start blowing things around. I also sprayed the backs of the rims.

Whichever way you do it, you have to be sure to get enough coats on so that you can peel it off later if desired.

Made a small change......exacto knife and trimmed the edges off. Still think anthracite with the machined lip might look nice. But I like this a lot more than all black......

I HATED it all black, not I really like the machined lip. Enough that I may keep it for awhile.

Correct. Modding is completely opinionated. This thread was about getting others opinions, I thought. That's the only reason I said anything.

I am actually looking to find a plasti-dip that is a lighter grey color. I want to darken my wheels up a little but not get too dark.

Glossifier? Please explain. I am seriously thinking of doing this!

Dipyourcar.com has a product called glossifier that is basically a clear coat for plastidip. You can change the look from matte to high gloss depending on how much glossifier you add on

Looks good. I'm not normally a fan of those wheels, or of all black wheels, but this is a good compromise IMO. The silver "lip" adds a nice contrast. I suspect it would look even nicer with a few layers of clearcoat.

It would take a lot of light coats from different angles. You might want to look for someone who "dips"!in your area. I think the glossy needs to be mixed and shot from a gun

When I had my accord dipped (may she RIP) it was mixed and sprayed. Made it look less like primer which was a must for my 16yo d.

Well, in case anyone cares, I just finished removing the plasti dip. I found I didn't put it on thick enough and I had a heckuva time peeling, and ended up using some gas too. To me, the machined face is too pretty to cover. Even though it is somewhat chipped and nicked, it still looks pretty good IMO.

Huh - that (machined, original) look totally works. Way nicer than I would have imagined. I think these wheels work for E46 better than E92.

They look awesome. Heck, 135's are awesome as it is but the flat black plastidip looks great with the color of the car.
