i ran the VIN through the VIN decoder at bmwarchive.org, no S767A. weird, seems to have everything but! can't tell whether it's a 6MT or not.

canadian cars got the white needles (i just posted that above. :) ). 235K km's = 145K miles.

just confirmed with the sales guy that it's a 6MT.
i thought 330's didn't get a 6MT standard until 2004?

yes i know, but the regular 2003 non-ZHP 330's got a 5-speed, if i remember correctly. didn't think it was an option in 2003 unless you ordered the ZHP package.
EDIT: just found this (from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BMW_3_Series_(E46)#Mid-year_2003_.283.2F03.29): apparently in 3/2003 all 330's got 6MT as standard - and the build date for this car is march 6, 2003. so that answers that.
i might go check it out. does the VIN decoder ever lie?

This car is a Canadian M-Sport, not ZHP or ZAM (Canadian equivalent). I had a Canadian ZAM and the spec sheet definitely had the 767 option code in place of the M-Sport.

M-Sport just like kerunt said. It has a lot of the ZHP options on it (The cube trim for example) but it's not a ZHP.

yep, agreed. my '05 ZHP coupe VIN decode lists the S767A (ZAM).
curious why anyone would order all of the options BUT the ZAM option pack - although, in canada ZAM was $6900! (US was $3900 according to the FAQ).

Another thing to check is the tach....this one has a 6500 RPM red line. ZHPs have a 6800 RPM red line.

Not in Canada. The Canadian version never got the 'updated' guage cluster, despite the car still revving to 6800RPM. We also retained the option to have manual seats, whereas the US ZHPs had to have powered seats.

Did the M-Sport really rev to 6800? I could have sworn the M-Sport did not get the upgraded cams.

It did not. That would be ZAM. That's why it's confusing. There are two cars in Canada that look extremely similar to our ZHP.

The reason all this flies in Canada is because we have enough snow to bring down our brain temps to normal operating levels.

...which is why i'm going to have a look at this car tomorrow. :) just going to peek in the right tailpipe for flap presence... if none then i will test drive. :)
but the lack of S767A option makes me think it's not a ZHP.

There's M-Sport, which is the US ZHP without cams, software, or cluster.
M-Performance, which is the US ZHP without cluster
commonly referred to as ZAM.
And all the rest.
We have a weird BMW line-up from euro and american cars. E46 320i's are everywhere, M-Sport is basically the UK Clubsport, IIRC our E36 M3's were euro spec, etc...

the initial E36 M3's were euro spec ('94-'95), the rest were same as the US.
however, we are now eligible to import E36 M3 Evo's from UK/europe... 321hp, 6MT, LSD... sounds good!

Don't even need to transplant the DME. Just reflash it with the ZHP software number

I don't know that the ZHP exhaust was actually any freer-flowing. I believe all 330s have a "sport" exhaust.

FYI, i checked out this car today. was quite rusty, interior was dirty (as evident by the pics), and a CEL. otherwise not bad. but the rust is a deal-breaker for me.... if there is rust bubbling in the paintwork, imagine what there is that you can't see! ack. didn't even pop the hood. but i did drive it to see if a 330i M-Sport would do it for me, aside from a ZHP sedan - and i think it would, although i like the ZHP exhaust note better.
