View Full Version : NC Meet - Let's do this!

PirateZHP

Hey NC people (and surrounding areas)! We have had quite a few members join recently from NC, and we had a few to begin with. So, I figure we should try to come up with a good time/place to meet. Kyle (Static) did a meet on the outer banks last year, but since he has moved to FL, we need to put something together for this year!

I am thinking April/May... unsure of location, but we usually have some pretty weather around then.

If you are interested in meeting up, please post your name and location. That will help us figure out where would be good to meet.

I'll start the list on the next post!

And may go if it's not depending on location and time

VIR is 3.5 hours from me. My car has been there but I have not!

I would make the trip to VIR in a heartbeat.

PirateZHP
02-06-2014, 01:46 PM
So maybe we need to make it a VIR trip...

Anyone know what it takes to set up a time for us to get out there?

HokieZHP
02-06-2014, 01:55 PM
Well it looks like it's closed for a "paving project" until March 5th. Then it looks booked solid until the weekend of April 20th.

http://virnow.com/track/calendar/

BTW is anyone a member of the Tarheel Sports Car Club? They seem to spend a lot of time up at VIR

QC_ZHP
02-06-2014, 02:19 PM
If we can figure out a way to get on to VIR, I'm in for sure. Maybe we could look at Carolina Motorsports park? Or take a trip down to the BMW Performance Center in Greenville, they have some cool stuff going on down there sometimes.

HokieZHP

If we get enough people to rent the track out for the day without it being ungodly expensive, I'm in for sure.

I won't be home from school until after graduation in late May, but if I'm around then I'd love to come! (I'm from Durham.)

It looks like everyone wants to get something at VIR, and we wouldn't be able to do something up there before April. If you have a suggestion for us, I'm happy to get something together before you leave.

I'd love to join in on VIR. If it's early enough in April, I can join in. Maybe even mid to late April can work.

It'd be great to get together would you all. Perhaps a spirited mountain drive + great BBQ for lunch? I know lots of fun roads in WNC.

Do you have any clue on cost? It sounds like a VIR trip is what people are most excited about.

I'd be interested if it was closer to the west side of the state. FYI; the tracks are usually free for spectators during club events.

I know Mid Ohio was crazy expensive when we rented to out for Northern Ohio BMWCCA. We needed like 80 - 100 cars to break even at $375.00 per car.

QC_ZHP

Yeah, I'd imagine it could get pretty pricey. I'm down for some mountain runs and BBQ

3ZHP
02-06-2014, 07:57 PM
I just found an old forum from 2008 that did a private track day for 40 cars and the cost was $450.00 each. I can just imagine what it's up to in 2014.

HokieZHP
02-06-2014, 09:13 PM
Hmm yeah not down for that. I remember now that it's that expensive. My mechanic was telling me how a bunch of his customers with gt3's, vipers, lambos etc go up for a day and it's thousands of dollars. So yeah. Probably not gonna happen haha

PirateZHP
02-07-2014, 05:10 AM
Alright... let's re-group. How does everyone feel about a mountain run? It's cheaper. It will still be fun. There are PLENTY of fun roads. I had fun in my 2006 Honda Accord 4cly, so I know we can have fun in our zetchpas.

Thoughts?

There are lots of other fun roads in the proximity of Deals gap as well. The question is how long do you want to drive for? Is this going to be a weekend event or an all 1 day event?

I'm up for either way. We run these mountains all of the time so I can assemble a group of people to convoy there to meet the Mafia. Would be a blast

A little late to the party here, but to rent the VIR Full Course looks to run between $8,000-10,000 for the day in-season, if the pricing is roughly the same as it was a couple of years ago. That includes the track and corner workers, BUT it does not include instructors, which are usually volunteers. Perhaps if there is interest in getting a bunch of us together for a high performance driving event we should try to find one that is being run that we can join individually, but all be there at the track for the same day (or usually two). Cost varies a bit, but is usually $375 for two days on the track. I used to go with an event in late May/early June that was called Marque Madness, and it was combined Audi, BMW, and Mercedes clubs, but there was a vast array of cars on the track. I don't believe this event is even in operation anymore, but there are other alternatives for sure.

A few shots from VIR:

(VIR sticker is good for at least a couple of HP...but not enough to keep a track-prepped E36 M3 at bay). ;)

Mountain drive sounds like it could be a lot of fun, but I would suggest not making the dates too close to the Family Reunion which is running the first weekend in May in Cape May, NJ, as people may end up with conflicts. If any of you haven't been to the formal family reunion and are otherwise able to go, I HIGHLY recommend it. That said, a mountain meet at another time could be a lot of fun!

Oh, nice '09 was my first year. Closing in on a year out of college/Boone and I miss it like crazy. What'd you major in?

I don't know that any days were finalized... I cannot go the first two weekends of April, but I'm free before/after then. I propose a Saturday jaunt in the mountains with some bbq lunch. Maybe stay in the mountains Saturday night, maybe get a short run before heading home Sunday. I know there were a couple people in the thread that know the good mountain roads, so I have to leave that part of to them.

Who wants to decide where to meet and where to drive to? (One of the people who know the roads.)

Any thoughts on Carolina Motorsports park? Its in Kershaw, SC - about an hour or so out of Charlotte I believe. Potentially significantly cheaper than VIR and I for one have yet to take my car on the track so I don't mind starting off small
