Hey guys! I'm currently trying to detail my ZHP wheels. There is some deep dirt in between the spokes that comes off with alot of scrubbing but I wanted to find out if there is some product strong enough but not too strong as to damage the wheel that can make my job a little easier. Here is a picture of the type of dirt and grime I am dealing with.

It looks like it might be the iron particles have performed a covalent bond to the aluminum.

Sonax wheel cleaner might help break those down. You could also try iron-x or similar.

I used diluted simple green, a brush, and some elbow grease to clean mine. Finished it off with Sonax.

Purple Power from Autozone or Advance Auto, spray it on, let set a minute or two, scrub, rinse, repeat as needed. Only wanna use this stuff about once a year cause you can smell its caustic.

I've used Simple Green on other cars but I've been too nervous to use anything besides my regular car wash liquid and elbow grease on these 135's. Is that silly of me? I probably shouldn't care, 3 of the 4 wheels came with curb rash so I need to refinish them some day anyway.

Sonax Full Effect always gets the job done.

I use simple green undiluted and haven't had an issue in 7 + years although; I do do a full off car detail and wax on my wheels annually

I have similar stuff but strangely it's mostly or entirely on my rear wheels. Sonax Full Effect did remove some of it; haven't tried simple green. Maybe I need to let the Sonax soak in longer on that stuff. I was going to try clay bar on it.

I was able to get some of it off with alot of scrubbing and some bug and tar remover. I'll have to order some of that wheel wax and see if it can help me get the rest of the stuff off.

Wheel wax won't get it off, that's to protect the wheel once you get it completely clean. Sonax is the cat's meow but not available in stores, will have to order it online. I recommended the Purple Power cause you can get it at any discount auto store. Also use one of those plastic mesh encased sponges when you scrub the wheels.

it looks like some really embedded brake dust you may need to use some Stoner's Tarminator (http://www.detailersdomain.com/Stoner-Tarminator_p_550.html), then clay it all out, then possibly use Sonax Full Effect Wheel Cleaner (http://www.detailersdomain.com/Sonax-Full-Effect-Wheel-Cleaner-500ml_p_324.html) again.
