Guys,

This is my 3.46 out of my ZHP (and 323i before that). It has lots of miles, probably 250k or a few more, but works just fine. I thought I broke it and swapped in another diff. But after going through it and removing the piece of broken output flange (was still in it's spot, not rattling around doing damage) I realized it is just fine. All it needs is your input and output flanges, a new output seal, and you are good to go. Ring gear shows normal wear, but nothing crazy. It needs to be degreased which I can do prior to shipping. I just re-sealed the cover with fresh sealant and I can even install the seals for you if you pay for them. In other words, I can send it to you 100% ready to bolt in and go. Or you could use it for an LSD core, a custom swap, track car, whatever.

If you guys don't want it in the next day or so, I will just drop it back in my car and return the one I bought. I am simply trying to recoup the cost of the used diff I got from a buddy (actually less, I paid $100 for the diff I bought, selling this for less).

I have shipped diffs before, it costs $80 no matter how you slice it. So the diff is $80 and the shipping is $80 making up the $160. You pay paypal fees or you gift it to me.

I can get the other flange for it, but they flanges are for a 323i anyways and not needed for our ZHP's. But just let me know if you want it and I will find it.

Thanks!

Seems to me that this is worth it no matter how you look at it.... Buy this, put it in and keep your old diff... if the thing tanks the next day, put your old one in, and all you have really lost is some time.

.....and $160.00.

That's the obvious... but I am venturing to guess that we have all spent more than that on silly things in our pasts. But maybe that's just me. :shift

Whats the difference between this one and the BMW Performance diff?

Ratio

Edit: the only true "performance" diff that wasn't available on any other car is the 3.64 that came in auto ZHP's

True, I guess I should've said no other E46 got it

Either way, I think 3.46 is best compromise of gas + good short ratio.

Diff is gone. Mods can delete this if they like. Thanks for looking. And yes, the 3.46 in a 6 speed car is almost perfect. With my headers 1st and 2nd gear get dispatched rather quickly. I always get a silly grin when I punch it from about 20mph in 1st gear.

The manual diff is a 3.07. The auto is a 3.64 :)

Yes, the "performance" diff for a manual car is a 3.07... but the 3.07 was also available as the stock diff in a 323i/Ci manual as well as 330Cic/xi 5 and 6 speeds (non-ZHP). Basically the "Performance Differential" is kinda just marketing

If anyone wants to know what diffs are in what cars, here you go. My advice for ZHP owners is to find the coveted 3.23 out of an XI car. That would REALLY be awesome for someone like me who does a lot of interstate driving. If I did mostly city, I'd go 3.64 all day long.

3.62 feels okay on the freeway. 3000rpm on the freeway is roughly 70mph

I'll just call it "sold" and leave the thread as it does have some helpful info.

Where I live, 70mph will get you rear ended. I cruise around 80mph and turn 3200ish.
