View Full Version : Hmm, black cube or silver cube interior trim...

Currently my car has a black alcantara interior with black cube trim. I personally am a huge fan of contrast, and emphasize this with my exterior (black trim, ambers on red to me works better than clears, angel eyes, yellow fogs). But, my interior is... blaaaaaahh.
I'm thinking of sprucing it up with the silver cube trim, or at least wrap it in something silver. The options for the trim are as follows (please vote on the poll):
* Keep black cube trim
-- Benefits: Won't have to replace anything or spend any money; it still looks awesome
-- Disadvantages: Center trim piece has broken tab, so it's loose; no contrast with the black dash; everything else in the interior is black
* Get silver cube trim
-- Benefits: CONTRAST!; cheaper pedal set [the set I want is cheaper in silver than in black]
-- Disadvantages: Have to buy a set, which is $$; Silver on black is good, but silver doesn't really go with the exterior all that well
* Wrap existing trim
-- Benefits: cheaper than new set of trim; can reverse at any time or change
-- Disadvantages: I'm horrible at doing it and refuse to pay anyone to do it; time consuming to do; sometimes look cheap
* Silver-sharpie
-- Benefits: It'll be very unique, and I'm comfortable doing it; FREE if I do it over my trim
-- Disadvantages: I'll be ruining my trim; if I don't want to ruin my trim, I have to buy another set in black; time consuming
Please vote and post your opinionz...

Tough call. Gotta think about this one a bit...

If it were me I would keep the black trim because I don't care for contrast and like my black on black on black car.. But it seems to me that you really wanna do the silver trim. If that's the case, I voted buy the silver trim and do it right the first time and not take a shortcut. This is something you will look at constantly as you enjoy your car, more-so than anything that you will do to your exterior. Take the time to save up and you won't regret it.

I voted for keeping it as it is. Personally that is what I would do, I like the way the interior is all black, from the carpet to the headliner. Mine is the same way
That's just me though.
Eli's silver cube looks AWESOME! But I think it also matches the exterior quite well. :dunno
If you do wanna swap, do it right and swap it for the real stuff, it will look better than wrapping and sharpie

I voted swap. If you were local, I'd let you try mine by swapping my dash bits. Are you driving to the GTG at Dane's place? Maybe someone there will have some they'd let you look at or try out for a few minutes in your car.

Yes, going to head down there.
I'm really liking the idea of the silver trim, but it isn't cheeeeeeap. :(

I like the black/black of my interior too, so personally I wouldn't swap, but I agree if you are looking for a change, do it right and spend the money for the trim swap. John

I vote silver if for no other reason than every car I've seen with black cube shows scratches really badly, especially on the door pull if you're married and your ring scuffs the finish*, where silver hides them somewhat better.
*and I bet some of you are thinking WTF? His ring scratches the trim AND HE STILL WEARS IT IN THE CAR??? :eyetwitch

I like the silver too. I would price out carbon effects for silver too. It would probably hold up better than the oem cube.

The thing with that is that I'm not too hot on wrapping. I'm afraid of durability as far as it peeling or whatever the case may be with wrapped items. Plus, I don't like the carbon fiber weave as much; I prefer the cube pattern, because they are different. Wrapping is still an option if I can't swing the price of a full swap though, so it depends on where I get the trim from.
Plus, wrapping it may cost more total after all is said and done then finding a set of silver cube used somewhere. I'd have to explore the options on cost and do a side-by-side comparo to see what makes the most sense.
I've never seen the silver cube trim in person, which is what makes it very difficult to decide if that's really what I want. I've seen pics and I like it, but once again am worried how that will work with the red exterior.

I have black cube with a black leather interior. I added gray (OEM) floor mats and Ultimate Pedal Covers which give a noticeable measure of contrast without altering the build.

Pics? And, what color/material are the Ultimate Pedal Covers?

Note a big fan of grey. Plus the pedals I want only come in silver or black.

Don't be at all! They're ideas that perhaps others can use!
Always tell us what you have done because I certainly am not the only one who's looking for ideas... :)

How much does silver cube trim cost?

I can't find any for sale, other than the set being sold on eBay for a Coupe (brand new) for over a grand. Ridiculous.
The last time I saw actual trim for sale that isn't from a dealer or anything was a couple of hundred for a full set.

If you're going to wrap or sharpie I would suggest buying a used set of wood trim, you don't want to ruin a perfectly good set of factory cube trim. That said I personally prefer the black cube but I can see why you would want the silver cube for the contrast.

I saw that as well, though that is regular silver trim. Was thinking the cube trim to make it more unique, and since the cube is a ZHP-exclusive option, that would be ideal.
I saw that yesterday though and thought of my black Sharpie...
A lot to pay for trim just to get Sharpie'd up though. It seems like a good price...

I really like the silver cube. Maybe someone else has silver cube and wants to swap to black? It might worth posting a trade offer on here and e46f.

So far it's looking like Black trim is winning, though the silver trim vote has made a huge comeback. For the time being, it's staying black, though the center trim has to get replaced at some point because the left mount is broken. Perhaps I'll revisit this when the funds allow.
Thanks all for the opinions!

I messaged the eBay guy selling trim about silver cube trim - he said:
Hi, I can get it for 1100.00 shipped.Total 8 pcs.

Holy moly! 1100???? Damn. What could you get a carbon fiber wrap for? To me that just seems super expensive. Maybe I don't know my *ss from a hole in the ground though......

That seems to be the going rate I see for trim... :(
I think I'm just going to end up leaving it. I still think I have to get a new center trim piece because one of the tabs is broken and it's loose...
If I change my mind later, will end up with silver carbon fiber or cube wrap.
