104,003 - DISA unit, ICV
Original Post:
Just got home from a very exciting day...I bought my second ZHP! It's an '06 Coupe, 6MT, Monacoblau on Alcantara with silver cube. To say the least, I'm in love all over again.
As a few of you know, I sold my '03 Silver Grey Sedan last year (to a fellow enthusiast), and boy have I missed it. I regretted selling, but it's good to know the car is in good hands. So that started my hunt for the next perfect ZHP...
A light bulb went off as soon as I saw this car online, and I knew I needed to go see it in person (Monaco blue is one of my favorite colors).
It also had every other option I required at minimum,
6MT
2004+
Alcantara
Heated Seats
It was also well maintained, and mostly highway miles. Coming from a sedan to a coupe, it feels like a whole different car, but the same car all over again, if that makes sense. Boy are these doors heavy! I will post official shots tomorrow, but here's a quick pic:

After further examination today, the car doesn't have xenon headlights...It does however, have the rear sunshade. This one came from a dealer out on Long Island, Long Island Auto Find, Inc. I had a pretty good experience buying from them.

Nice! Looks great, Ian. Honestly, not having xenons on a coupe is far less of a downgrade than not having it on a sedan. At least you still have projector housings. Plenty of things you can do with that, like VERY bright LEDs.

So you have projectors, but not xenon? Interesting. I have halogens in one of my sedans. Not been an issue really. BTW, your steering wheel is mounted upside down--should be an easy fix ;-)

Did you inspect the lights? I'm pretty sure all 330 coupes 04+ got bi-xenons.

That's what I thought. Apparently this isn't the case. He most definitely doesn't have bi-xenons because 1) he doesn't have adaptive lights and 2) the lights do not auto level when turned on. Plus, high beams are halogens. Ballasts are also not present.
derbo
11-25-2013, 03:30 PM
There are a fair selected facelifted coupes that have halogens.
Notable majority of them I've seen that do not have them are 2004 325ci non sport package with amber leds.

Only issues are:

That's what I thought....I just assumed it would come with it being an '06; My '03 sedan had bi-xenon. ~$900 option at the time. The lights are not bad by any means, when aimed properly.

I do say though, there's nothing like having Xenons...
Ian, you could always add a couple of ballasts+ignitors, get the correct bulbs, and have me code it for Xenons. :biggrin

+1 I briefly owned a Honda Element SC last year and had to bring it to the dealer to get the stereo codes. While I was inside talking to the rep, they pulled the car into the bay to "check the codes." When I got the car back, it had dealer's plate holders on. WTF? How about asking me first?

That's been done to my family's VW's at our local dealer....it had the name, phone number, website address, and a catch phrase all on one license plate frame. A little ridiculous Lol. This car had plastic frames on it too, which I ripped off when I got home.

Replaced Valve Cover Gasket, both Pre-cat O² sensors, and NGK Spark plugs.

Old plugs were BMW Bosch:

Old Oxygen sensors:
http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2821/11490538214_47cc54c0a0_b.jpg
New sensors were Bosch 17216 (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000CF3WPI/ref=oh_details_o06_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) and Bosch 17215 (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000CF3WOY/ref=oh_details_o06_s02_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) not sure what the difference was...they had the same connector but a different color wire.
It was a great day to do this, it was a record high 55º here, and apparently will be higher tomorrow so, I'm going to take a look at the infamous DISA next.
104,003: Replaced DISA unit and cleaned ICV. The old DISA gasket was bad, but it seemed to still be moving properly. ICV wasn't seized up like I expected.
It's official.
Got the old plates registered today. The DMV sent my regular NJ plates to the wrong dealership, so there was a delay in them turning it back around. Then they were finally mailed to me yesterday. Stopped by the DMV, got the reg switched over, and was out of there in under 20 minutes.

I was getting multiple codes misfire, lean, and rough cold starts, so I wanted to do O2 sensors, plugs, intake boot, DISA, ICV all around the same time to just eliminate it.
No more codes :) it was a combination of everything causing my issues though. After 100k miles, time to change everything if it hasn't been done in the past (as we all know Lol)

Yeah me too. It seems like a big difference in cold starting now, but I still get a strange noise once and a while. I'll take a sound clip of it next time it happens.
As for the dealer repairs, they keep telling me they're waiting for a loaner to become available. It sounds like stalling to me, and BMW NA doesn't seem to care a great deal either...I wanna get this stuff done! as much as I dislike complaining it seems that when it comes to issues like you are having with your dealership that the loudest voice gets results. Originally, when they snapped the door off, they removed the drivers door panel, and regulator to repair the Door Check. Ever since, the door hasn't fit back together properly (clips snapped) and there was (what turned out to be) a "loose spring of some sort" inside the door making a rattling noise. That's exactly what they wrote on the work order. Where did this spring come from?
After about 4 months, this whole ordeal is finally over!

Happy with the results, especially at such a low cost without retrofitting. There are no bulb out warnings either. Now, I have to work on polishing/buffing the lenses to get the pits out.

Thanks, Dario. I've always handed over a folder to the buyer with EVERYTHING from my previous vehicles. Goes to show you, there are people who would rather make things difficult, than help you out.
For sure. The least he could do is make you copies... that's not difficult. What a jerk.

Ian, unfortunately this is the reality in the world we all live in. Not everyone will make up a folder and keep all receipts for their cars....then turn them over to the next owner....:facepalm
It is good to see you're making things right with your car though! Love seeing the progress :thumbsup
Thanks, Charlie. I'm trying!
Some good news today:
I was able to get in touch with someone at Amityville Firestone, where the PO serviced the car twice. They faxed me the invoices.
One was for an oil change at 99k miles on 5/16/2013, and the Idler Pulley at 102k miles on 8/5/2013.
The contact info for the PO was on the invoice, so I kindly reached out to her. Lucky enough, she still has the second key for the car, and is sending it to me. :applause2

Look up the manufacturing date on your expansion tank, that should give you an idea. All BMW parts are timestamped in some way.

Nice! I found my PO and they had an extra full key and a valet! Now I have 3 keys. :)

Thanks for this. I didn't realize the expansion tank would have a date/time stamp on it.
Looks like it's original. 3/16/2006

Just an update on a couple things I did on the ZHP this weekend. Changed both belts, and the hydraulic tensioner pulley. No more annoying noise on cold start :)
I've been busy with my other recent project, my grandpa's '86 Jeep Cherokee, which I just located and bought back from Hawaii. I'm so glad to have it back, and I've begun the restoring process. It was neglected pretty badly over the past 6 years, since I sold it. Maybe I'll make an off-topic thread about it since it's a long story...
Here it is next to the 330's

Are you going to drive it at all or just restoring it for now?

Thanks guys, I'm looking forward to getting it back to where it used to be. Right now it runs really rich due to the deteriorated vacuum lines. It's also carbed...I have a bunch of parts going in that should make it drivable within the next couple weeks.
And the E90 330i is my moms, of course ;)
