Starter Issues

Occasionally on mornings where my car has been sitting all night, the starter will just spin and not engage the flywheel when turning the key. After about 4-5 spinning attempts, the car will start. This has happened to me about 5 times since I bought the car (June) and happened this morning, hence the thread.

Its more frustrating then anything and I'd like to address it ASAP before it gets any worse. Has anyone else had this problem? If it was a flat spot on the starter, then why would it happen so rarely? Flat spot on flywheel?

Sounds like the starter's solenoid is flaky. Replace the starter before it strands you. You are fortunate the thing is giving you a warning.

Yeah sounds like you need a new starter.
