View Full Version : WTB: e46 sedan mirror caps

I don't want to explain why (I'm an idiot), but I need to buy a pair of e46 sedan mirror caps. Preferably some sort of OEM gloss black (that matches our ZHP gloss black trim) but I would consider other colors as well, spray paint can make just about any color black.
Shipped to Memphis, TN.
Thanks!
EDIT: Anyone tried out some aftermarket CF mirror caps? Good? Bad?

I'd rather try to get OEM mirror caps and wrap them with CF to make sure fitment is good. I might have some caps but PO glued one to the housing.

You tried to pull them off and broke the plastic clips?

I said I don't want to explain, but yes, I guess it went something like this...
"I wonder how these are attached, hmm, I bet its just a few clips *yank* cool, *yank* (other side), oh wait two of the tabs are broken off of this one, oh wait, they are all cracked and or broken off. I'm such a genius, that college education is really paying off."

Caps included? What color are they? I did crack the black plastic surround on the passenger side backing into the garage about 5 years ago, would be nice to replace that as well (amazing that superglue has held up this long).
Thats really generous of you!

See above mine are not perfect (pitted) but if you wanted to try to glue them on or attach them some other way I could send them to you once I have some replacements situated.

Honestly Marcus, when I removed mine to do the pink plastidip, I cracked 3 of 4 tabs on each one... They still stay on just fine, haven't had a single issue since. I do plan to remove them and then reinstall them with some 2-part expanding foam as a sort of "glue" but it hasn't really been an issue, so I haven't worried about it yet... Just FYI...
Don't beat yourself up over something like that, its just a car!

The only way to avoid this is to pull the glass first, then depress tabs from inside with a standard screwdriver.
I understand you didn't want to explain this.
I wanted to make sure some other guys knew how to take them off without breaking the tabs.
You may purge this from your memory now, so next time, you can break them again :)

Thanks for the encouragement, I took the dog to the vet today for her annual shots and examination, they are still on after two 90mph+ blasts on the interstate. It has since become less of an immediate concern. But still holding out hoping that coby1's are black and that his offer still stands!

I was still in the "anger" phase when I posted, didn't want to show how dumb I was; but now I understand that by sharing perhaps others can learn from my mistake!

It's all good. I figured it out after Justins mirror cap fell off. Found out shit head before him had it 3M taped underneath. Why? Because he broke clips. When I installed the new one I figured out that proper removal has to be from inside.

Double sided tape, problem (temporarily) solved, walking out into the shop to do that now; thanks.

Yep. It'll hold. Just be careful shutting door. That's when his fell off. Never would have known otherwise. You may need to remove some of the dampening or all of it.

Hey, that might not look too bad, the new M235i has silver caps and it looks like the surround that is busted on my passenger side is intact on yours.
I would love to have them if you can spare them; if the color doesn't look right or the paint is chipped no biggie I can have them refinished in gloss black. No rush but when you get a chance pack them up if your serious about getting them out of your garage. My email is Marcus.Pugh@gmail.com (as well as my paypal) if you want to send me a bill or an email.
I love this forum!

Of the pink plastdip or the cracked tabs? I only have pics of the former... Search for the thread "Show your support", a thread I started a few weeks ago.

Got the mirrors from Coby1 yesterday, installed them this morning along with replacing the cracked (but superglued) passenger side mirror surround. Initially I didn't like the color at all, but its kind of growing on me. I'll post pics later.
Thanks again Coby1, this forum rocks!

^ they are kind of pitted up, let me get some pics of them for you and see if you want them. I need to "pay it forward" so if you like what you see, they are yours for the shipping cost.

Sure thing. Thanks a ton. They can't be worse than mine either way. Do you have a spare right-side glass or Coby only sent you the covers?

Actually, they look pretty good in pics because (as you know) imola red takes good pics, even when the car is dirty it doesn't look dirty (or nearly as dirty) in pictures. Coby just sent me the shells he had, no glass, no wiring. Your welcome to them as well, the triangle is not gloss black however like our ZHP's, its more of a matte black, and I stole the trim around the passenger side mirror to replace mine that I had cracked. Its all in the pics below.

I go back and forth, I like the color, and then I don't. I'll probably roll with them for the winter and paint the gloss black in the spring.
Thanks again Coby1!
EDIT: lol, just noticed that my stock style 135 is also pictured, my pilot super sport that was damaged from a bad RTAB finally gave out yesterday and I had to put on the 135 to get me by until I can order a new wheel (tomorrow).

I don't know, sometimes I like them the color they are, other times I want to paint them gloss black.

^ thank you, I have the film to smoke the corners and side markers, but I had such a hard time doing the taillights (not the whole taillights, just the white line) that I'm dreading it. I would almost rather buy new ones that are already smoked.
