View Full Version : Missing the ZHP

So I was going through some old pictures of my ZHP tonight including the day I bought it and realized how much I miss the car. The lines of the body, the mods I had done to it and just the driving experience. So different than the 335. Yes, the 335 will rip your face off when you punch it but the same driving experience just isn't there. I'm hoping coils for it will help but dang I wish I hadn't sold the ZHP....

Just glad it stayed in the family cause it really is a great car! Anyone else who sold their ZHP miss it?

Coulda went 1er, but you'd still miss the ZHP. I miss mine, though I also really love the 1. There is an Imola twin of my car at the track this weekend (yest and today) and two other ZHPs. It tugs my heart strings. If they weren't priced where they'e are I'd pick one up and make it a track car.

Hearing both of you remis about your ZHP only confirms why I won't be selling either of my E46 BMWs. Thanks guys! :thumbsup

I can sell it back... ? I have recently thought about trying to sell it to get into an AW ZHP. There are TWO for sale right now and it is killing me!

However, this jet black is amazing when it's clean! You did a great job taking care of this car, and I am doing everything I know to keep it as nice!

The E92 335i is a great BMW. I love catching one off streetlights and following it on take off, it has such a great exhaust note. It's funny how we desire what we don't have right? I considered one before the ZHP, but the allure of the exclusivity and classiness pulled me away from the E92. Still to this day, the E92 would be my second choice after the ZHP, even if it only has 2 doors. The one thing I did not love was the interior, but still that's just my personal preference - i felt nothing was functionally wrong (except cup holders) with it.

Good point. I did like how you didn't see ZHPs everywhere. Whereas there's provably 20 e9xs being driven by students around campus.

I think the amount of work I did on the ZHP made it "mine" whereas I'm just not at that point ywt on the e92

While I know ZHP is a a fantastic car and I really enjoyed it, I will always miss the M3 more. Yes, it was less comfortable, less practical, got worse gas mileage, and was expensive to run. But the moments when everything was in sync made it all worth it.

Chris,
We've had at least one ZHP in the stable for the last 3 years but I've only ever driven one as my DD for about 3 months. And I can/have gone several months without driving one and then when I finally do again, it reconfirms that this "non-special" breed bit me about 3-1/2 years ago and I still have a severe case of ZHP-itis disease. Preston's car will be back at school by the end of the month (I'm currently playing with it), ping him if you need to scratch your ZHP itch, he'd love to drive a 35.

Yeah I'll have to txt him and see if he wants to meet up sometime. He told me he's interested in a 335 next

If you think those are bad go test out an E38 (assuming you can find one with non-broken cupholders)

What do you mean?

I know what he means I think. Having driven stu's wagon, it isn't as effortless to drive as the sedan. Yes it's faster than the standard ZHP which makes it not matter much but when you have both a supercharged sedan and wagon it can see why it would be more difficult.

Stu, that wagon is just so unique though! I loved driving it.

No room. SF area is prime for space. Right now with the Prius and the ZHP, it's tight on space. IMO keeping the ZHP is still the best thing.

I was lusting after a 135i, then my buddy had the water pump go out on his 2006 325i (N52 motor, cousin of the 135i motor) and the lust stopped. Anyone want to wager the cost of the water pump? $448! Not to mention BMW could have put it ANYWHERE (it is electric after all) and they packed it under the engine between the K-member and the engine. IDIOTS! Took me 4 hours. So let me recap......

E46 water pump replacement: $65 and 30 minutes.
E9X water pump replacement: $448 and 4 hours.

E46 wins! Oh, and did I mention the car had a whole 67k miles on it?

I'm on month 89 of ownership of my ZHP (7 years, 5 months). There were a few instances where I almost sold or traded her off, but I couldn't go through with it. This includes a 2008 e90 M3 (new, back in december of 2008), just love the car too much. I also lusted after the 1er when it was coming out (2009?), but when it did come out, it just didn't tickle my pickle like I thought it would (though I have never driven one, based on looks alone).

Now that the car is up there in miles (and mods) I don't really think its worth that much, I'll just keep it forever and when I'm ready for my next BMW, just park it beside the ZHP. Looking like that will possibly be a CPO M2 GC (if they make one) or a CPO M235i GC. I'm thinking about 2018.

^All about this.

There are times I've daydreamed about replacing her- specifically after a couple of hours in Marc B's 1er.

But at the end of the day I love everything about my ZHP. I have no intentions of ever parting with her. She's everything I ever wanted in a car. The lack of car payment doesn't hurt her cause either.

When the time comes that the kids are done with college and I have the money, I'll just add a newer CPO Bimmer to the stable. That's still a solid 10 years off.

By then the ZHP should only have about 175k on her. :)

Yeah that's true winding out the tuned 335 through 4th and higher is a lot of fun....chirping the tires and getting the back end to get a bit out of shape going into 3rd gear is something a ZHP definitely can not do haha.

If I wasn't in college and had a job I would have kept the ZHP and bought a new car. Current finances prevented me from doing so this time unfortunately.

Hurtful??? Since when was driving the ZHP hurtful???
As my odometer approached 170k, I dreaded the mileage as well, but guess what? I've gotten over it. Now, I actually look forward to the day I can roll 333,333 333.3 on the odometer, catching up to what my E30 had on its original engine when I swapped it. It still ran perfectly, by the way. So, with that said...

I'm sitting in a hotel room in Vegas waiting to fly home tomorrow morning. All I look forward to is my drive home from SFO airport down the pacific coast. My zhp is waiting at the covered longterm parking lot. I left it in between a Porsche and a Lexus, that's the best I could do to keep her safe! :rofl

All,

I ended up selling my beloved 2004 Orient Blue ZHP last week. The only reason I really sold was because I found my unicorn, a 2006 Interlagos Blue M3 with only 19,000 miles. I knew if I didn't pull the trigger fast I might lose it. I sold the ZHP to a really nice guy who I know will appreciate its specialness. He actually made it a lot easier to let go as I knew he would take care of her the way I did. I really struggled with the decision but I needed the money to put down on the M3. Indeed, I am a bit wistful and melancholy when I don't see the ZHP in my garage. However, I am content and can lay my bald head down and die in peace, as I found the one. By the way, this is still the best forum out there.
