View Full Version : Steering wheel controls with NAV, did I miss something?

I just realized that the "new" used NAV unit I installed last week is not responding to my steering wheel controls (volume, station changing, etc). They worked before. Is there a plug or something I may have missed? I only plugged in the two plugs on the left of the unit (I think a blue one and a white one).

I don't remember any other plugs the one time I had mine pulled out... I do distinctly remember two on the left side though, so I'm sure you're correct... Hope there's not something more seriously wrong though, that's not good... Good luck buddy.

Your SMG wheel is broken, give it to me ;)

Thanks Joop. LOL JP. Any other, better ideas than JP's? :)

So you're saying they worked after installing the new unit but stopped working in the past few days? It might just be a loose wire at the back of the new unit

Nah, they worked before the "new" unit and not after. Hoping it's not that unit. I asked the seller, but no response yet. I def. feel like it's something he would have told me given all the correspondence we've had.

Nice assist Shawn... I was actually coming in here to say the same thing as I have my entire center console apart today, with my nav unit out as well.
Only two connector JR... Good luck buddy.

Maybe it came out of a car without steering wheel buttons and it just needs to be coded with NCSExpert?

perhaps, although I don't remember seeing steering wheel button coding options... I could be wrong though, its been a while.

I don't mind pouring through it if you can dump the settings

That would be awesome. Thanks for the help/ideas fellas. I have not heard back from him. Hmmmm. I hope it might be a coding issue. I'll see if I can research it too.

I looked it up, there's only 10 settings in the module and the only one I'm not certain about is "telematik" but I don't think that's going to help.
Does your cruise control work?
Horn?

Horn should work with a different set of wiring so that should not be an issue (but I am also working off old chassis code logic).

William, yes, I can make changes in my car and see what happens. Also, I'll look into NCS on my end and see what I can find. Granted, I'm working with a 'vintage' car so it might not have the same options as you high class '06 guys... :biggrin

Horn should work with a different set of wiring so that should not be an issue (but I am also working off old chassis code logic). For sure I was just thinking of the other physical wires that run through the clock spring in case something went wrong in there.

REALLY appreciate the research. Horn works. I'll check cruise control.

Forgot to update this thread with the resolution. Research showed that horn/steering wheel buttons not working point to the clock spring. Changed mine out, and viola, everything works.
