Isn't a delay in steering attributing to worn tie rods? That was certainly the case in my E30.

Possibly. I took the coupler out of my parts car yesterday (109k) and there was no side to side play at all. I don't think that's where it's coming from, but it's still something I'd want to do.

Found a set of wheels I'm interested in. OZ Superleggera, 18x8 square. Pretty good condition, slight bends on 3/4 wheels but no vibrating or bouncing. The guy says he'll go down to 650 for me. They come with Bridgestone Potenza S0-4 in 245/40/18 with 50% life left, which are pretty nice tires and the same type as the ones I just bought, just a different size.

They aren't the prettiest wheels in the world, but they are functional and MUCH lighter than the 135s. What do you guys think? This is what they look like.

More parts incoming. 2 M3 engine mounts, 2 M3 transmission mounts, and 2 strut reinforcement plates (for coils). $190 shipped. Not bad at all. Would have spent around $230 at ECS Tuning.

Gonna see if I can go to my friends house to do the work because I don't have jack stands. :dunno Also, going to take my headlights apart, install a new igniter on the passenger side, and french my fogs and high beams. Once I get my BMW software set up, I will also activate DRLs, update the DME, and try to figure out which sensor is faulty and causing my stalling.

General consensus on the VAC oil pan baffle is that it is not needed for a vehicle that is not tracked 24/7. Plus I do not have access to a welder so I would have to take the oil pan and have the baffle welded.

Dario, any chance you have enough extra power steering hose length to be able to cut off the 1" or so that has been squeezed for years and push up a fresh portion of the hose onto the housing? I deal with this often with soft hose plumbing in boats, and this usually solves the issue, as oftentimes the fitting that is being clamped cannot be overtightened without fear of breaking it. Also, if you have a hard time getting the hose back up onto the housing, heat it first with a heat gun or equivalent. Hope this helps!

Probably end of this week. I got sick and so I will wait until I am feeling better.

Little update:

After about two weeks of driving, it appears that switching to the smaller hose clamps for the power steering reservoir did the trick. It's no longer leaking. Also, I added Lucas fuel system cleaner to this tank of gas. Might be in my head, but I've only driven ten miles and I think I already feel a difference, mainly warm starting the car is softer. I'll see how it goes, but I think I'm gonna give it another 2 consecutive treatments so I know things are good in terms of cleanliness, at least as much as it can be without actually removing the rail and injectors and getting them manually cleaned and flow matched.

BP set up all the software on my computer today, but we still couldn't get the coding to work. BP arrived at the conclusion that the cable has the wrong chipset and so I ordered a VAGCOM cable for Audi that I will solder and use for my car. In the meantime, I am reverting my OS to x86 because NCS wouldn't work, and BP is currently trying to figure out ISTA.

Yet the pins on my new ignitor snapped off like cake. :( So now, my right headlight is out AGAIN. Sent a message to thebmwpartstore asking for an exchange. It is a BMW dealer, after all. Vibration from mounts ?

I can't comment on the trans mounts as mine are OEM (original with 190k miles on them) but I do have the M3 motor mounts and can say that they produce a tiny bit of vibration when idling. Above 1100 or so RPM you can't feel them there. The amount of vibration is so minor, it just makes it feel like an older car feels when idling; not quite as smooth but not intrusive.

Personally I love it because it reminds me of how my E30 felt when idling.

I do get a weird little vibration between 2000-3000 RPM when accelerating under full load though that I believe it from the mounts as my Guibo, CSB, and diff bushings are all fresh. It's not a big deal, but would rather it not be there...

Okay, just played with the revs. At 1300rpm and 1800rpm, I got a pronounced vibration into the cab. Had to hold at those revs because +-50rpm got rid of it. Not a big deal, honestly. If I'm ever down there again, I'll loosen and retighten the mount bolts and I'll see what that does for me.

Of course, plenty of pros. Feedback upon heavy throttle is much smoother and engine flex is also reduced.

Considering selling my car. It makes no sense for me to have all my money in a depreciating asset. Just seeing what interest is like.

Sean, it's your fault. I was looking at ///Ms yesterday. It wouldn't cost too much to fix one...

I don't want to deter you, but the M is still a depreciating asset and it costs more to repair. While it has the prestige and just pure raw factor I would stay with the ZHP. I kinda wish I had done it right in the first place and got a 6sp ZHP sedan because if have spent less money and been a little more comfortable going forward. I plan on keeping the M for a while, but when kids come into the picture I'll either keep it as a weekend car or switch it up to something bigger.

You have the car where you want it and paid a fraction of the price. You could probably make some money on the sale and move onto the next thing which I understand, but you wanted a car that didn't have accident damage and you got it.

Are you worried about additional issues popping up with the car? It does seen like it happens to the e46 fairly often and it can get tiring of doing maintenance when it should just work.

I get the "itch" every 18-24 months, so I understand and I hope it passes, but if it doesn't, then on to the next project!

I'm not exactly worried about repairs, especially considering an M. However, I'm not selling the car in favor of immediately buying an M. I want to invest my money so that I could have an income while not working. I'd be doing this with my brother's business buying dry van trailers and renting them to drivers. I think that's much smarter than simply letting all of my money depreciate, while not having an income. Maybe later down the line, I'd buy an M. But that's next year, minimum.

Jane is reliable. I've done some good maintenence, just a few things left and it'll be bulletproof. I'd just hate to see the $10-11k I have in "capital" turn into $6k when I hit 100k miles. I want to set myself up with a way to mske money while in school.

Dario, I definitely hear you on trying keep the dough in your pocket. If that's the immediate priority, then you've made the right call. However, keep in mind that yes, these things do depreciate but so do all cars. In California, there's no way you can be car-less so even if you sell your zhp, you'll end up with something of roughly an equal value. Anything cheaper and you'll have to spend money on it, which will put you back in the same number zone. You have done a lot of important maintenance on your zhp, which buys you a lot of worry-free miles. Based on what you've done so far, you'll be easily able to take your car up to 150k+ miles without any worries. Given that your car is at 78k miles, that's 4-5 years. If you spread the depreciation value over the years, it would seem quite reasonable. Perhaps you can change the strategy where you only spend the money on maintenance (as with any car) and less priority on mods, which is where most of the big money goes. At least until you have the income to start doing mods again. So if you're just going to own the car and enjoy it, the running cost+depreciation will only be worth your while if you stretch it over the years. But at least, these years will be spend driving a zhp :)

I hear you. I wouldn't be buying another car right after, though. I'd probably just drive my dad's SUV while I used that money to set up an income. Problem is, I can't use that money so long as I own the car.

Anyways... the car is listed for sale. I might end up keeping it. Might not. We'll see where it goes. If all goes well with my plans to set up an income, I should be able to be back into a BMW by next year, hopefully an M; except I'd be making money now. Most of this is being spurred by the fact that I can't live off my parents help while going through school because at minimum, that's still another 7 years. So I either need to set something up now to get the burden off my back in the future, or take on everything in debt. Really don't want a ton a debt. :(

Makes perfect sense, Dario. It's great to hear that you have parental support to get by. You have a long road ahead and it's not a cheap one either. As someone who is about to wrap up a 4 year degree, I know first hand that the costs of education are bewildering. Rest assured, as long as you stay on your path, an M will be well within your future budget :)

Yeah, I would have done that, too. Customer wanted it fixed which is why I even tried.

Got scared a bit, though. After I flashed and reset adaptations, can was bouncing between 1100-1300rpm. Couldn't figure it out so I looked around in INPA but didn't touch anything anymore. Restarted the car and everything was fine.

Didn't bother me too much. I wish I had flashed my ECU earlier, though, because that stutter drove me mad sometimes.

Mine were just burned. I tried to clean them but nope, completely burned. Normal interval is ~100k so you were right on time.
