I tried searching, but didnt find much...

Has anyone tried a z3 shifter in their zhp? what are your impressions?

I know understeer sells a kit at a very reasonable price, and I installed one on a friend's
e30 with good results, but curious to see how they are on the e46

Thanks,
Navid

I am using a Z3M shifter.

The shifter itself doesn't exactly in the middle and hitting 5th gear is close to the right side a bit. it's not significantly noticeable once you are used to it. The shifts are nice and price and much shorter. All you really need is new shift lever. If you are at it up there anyways, I would redo the shifter bushing as well.

The shift itself needs to be shaven at the bearing side to fit the lever as well.

Comparion Z3M to ZHP.

Thanks for the response Derek, I have also heard that z4 shifter fits without modification, maybe that would be the route to go...

Why doesn't you just buy BMW's SSK?

I dunno about the E46 guys, but on the E36M they needed to pre-bend the Z3M to fit.

I bought a BMW Performance SSK for my car. I said screw the boot and knob, and picked up the shifter itself for $60

Wouldn't go with UUC IMO. I only hear bad things about their stuff.

But autosolutions makes a great shifter. Many people who track their E46 M3's use this shifter and they love it.

I have the 545i short shifter and I love it.

I can't say if UUC makes a good SSK as I haven't installed theirs. However I know Rob (sockethead) has the UUC SSK installed on his car.

i have the UUC Evo3 SSK w/ DSSR and it is absolutely perfect. i recently drove a stock shifter and it was night and f'in day. i will admit is a bit notchy but the precision and linkage tightness is amazing.

i haven't driven the BMW SSK but imo when it comes to THE MOST important factor for affecting driving enjoyment, go big or go home.

ZHP shifters are straight as well and do not require bending. Just a little shaving on the plastic portion of the bearing to fit the lever. I wouldn't even call that modification.
