First off, this forum is great, it's rare to find a group of people that don't trash talk each other, and are supportive even with FS threads.

So I picked up an 05 Alpine on Gray sedan, steptronic, Factory Navigation and Heated Seats, with 66,800 miles on it yesterday.

I apologize for the glamorous setting, was in high gear driving home and had to take a few shots for posterity.

I plan on searching for most of these answers but figured I'd get them all out here first since its a "projects" thread

There are no manuals with the car, can anyone tell me the recommended Oil weight is (don't want to start any oil debate, just looking for the weight), additionally where I could buy the manuals?

Going to do some basic maintenance, plugs, oil, air filter this weekend, anything else to look at?
Oil, air, cabin air done!

Washer fluid pump isn't working, I want to check the fuses, but not sure which fuse box, fuse.
Pump replaced

Drivers window regulator is on its last legs.
Lubed window tracks, seems to be working ok for now.

Has factory nav and Sirius, NEED to get an Aux in don't care about Ipod control.
Aux installed

The steering wheel is pretty shot, not a high priority but I'd like to replace it.
Cleaned, looks great!

There was only 1 Key, need to talk to the dealer about a replacement.

Congrats Doug.

-I have an extra set of manuals that you can have. Will you be down in the Princeton area anytime soon? If not, I can mail them to you. But I think it is safer if you drive the e30 M3 down here, just so the manuals don't get lost in the mail ;).

-I've had to replace the washer fluid pump on a previous ZHP - it was a pretty cheap part ($30 - $40 if I recall correctly) and took all of 2 minutes to swap in.

Let's see some pictures!

Congrats on the buy and safe trip back home. I tried to call you to help pass the time--got your voicemail.

I have an Aux jack for sale if you have non-nav. http://www.zhpmafia.com/forums/showthread.php?10357-E46-non-Nav-Aux-jack-for-sale

Main fuse panel is in the top of glove box--two white toggles.

Try the alacantara cleaning on the wheel before you give up. (thread here somewhere)

If you do need a new one: http://www.zhpmafia.com/forums/showthread.php?10262-Replacement-steering-wheel&highlight=alcantara

Be sure to take proof of ownership to the dealer. I think they want the title in order to purchase a key.

Nice Doug!

My car only came with 1 key also, I heard the keys are $200 at the dealer.

I use Mobile 1 0W-40 oil. Walmart has the 5 quart jugs on sale for $22.50. You can order them online if the local Walmart doesn't have them.

Thanks for all of the help!

Bill, I'll definitely take you up on the extra set of books, it's really one of my pet peeves.

Shawn, sorry I missed your call, must have been distracted with the car :), thanks again for checking out that other car for me, good karma! My car does have the factory Nav, so I presume the aux in you have will not work with my headunit?

I'll definitely pickup some M1 from walmart.. I would warn people in shady areas (NJ) to check the seals on oil from Walmart. I purchased a 5 qt jug once, and someone had nicely refilled it with their used oil and returned it to walmart they obviously hadn't checked it when taking in the return.. good times!

Gary pimping Sprint Booster..... nice! :thumbsup

I agree it's messed up about people putting in used oil and then taking it back to WalMart for a refund. You would think people working at WalMart would check to see if the cap has been opened....:scratchinghead

Nope, this Aux jack won't work.

Be sure to check the version of DVD Nav you have. I bought one off of ebay for < $50 that works. Not that I use it much with my super-smart phone on board.

Also not sure you need to do plug at ~66k. They are due at 100k I beleive. Though I've been tempted to do mine--I'm at 73k.

The plugs being worn out is not the problem at 60-70K miles but the amount of time they've been in there will almost cement them to the threads in the head. A tech told me once that he recommended the plugs should be replaced as part of Inspection II which is every 60K miles. And if you're already doing a VCG replacement, you have easy access to do the spark plugs too. I do know when we replaced the VCG on my son's car at 85K miles, we changed the plugs and those things were way tighter than the recommended torque, had to use a breaker bar to get them loose.

Be honest with yourself, and ask yourself this question more slowly. You can look in the mirror while you do this if you have to.

Reminds me of the time how Costco stopped selling Omega watches... People would ask to try them on and then, with a sleight of hand, swap them with fakes. Many Costco employees wouldn't be able to tell the difference even if you pointed them out! Authorized Dealers are your friend...

Bruce pardon my ignorance but VCG? valve cover gasket?

I will say the engine bay of this car is really filthy I get the feeling it was parked next to the construction site at the dealer, because the exterior is flawless, and the interior is really nice for being the light gray. I'll probably degrease it at a pay and spray this weekend.

No offense meant to the employees of walmart, they don't get paid enough to be knowledgable about every product they sell (if thats even possible). I would say the same to be true of most auto parts stores around me, it just happened to occur at walmart and I had already dumped the 5qts out of my subaru :(

Secondly, this thread is all over the place and gave me good few chuckles this morning. Especially with wolf trying to post

So for the window Regulator, Replace with a new one, or Zip Tie mod? It seems to work well to a certain point in the travel, then Clunks and moves more slowly...

Congrats on the pickup. And yes, please post pics when you get a chance. Looks like most of your questions are answered. I bought new regulators but I have yet to use/need them (knock on wood). But, from everything I hear, the zip tie mod is the way to go if you don't want to buy them.

As far as the fuse, I don't really know. I can check and see if there is a list.

I have a card that shows the fuse layout in my box. If yours is missing, let us know and well send the picture. BTW, are there two different fuse box locations?
