BP announced today that it has joined the automotive industry’s TOP TIER program for gasoline detergency standards.
Although all three BP-branded gasoline grades treated with the company’s proprietary Invigorate additive have always exceeded the TOP TIER standard for detergency, the company formally joined the program on June 24th.
Although BP (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BP) (British Petroleum) was identified in a media report as having detergent levels that met or exceeded Top Tier standards, the company did not initially elect to join the consortium.[13] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Top_Tier_Detergent_Gasoline#cite_note-13) However, in June, 2013, the company decided to formally join Top Tier. The company explained that they had become aware that consumers increasingly seek out the TOP TIER designation, many by checking the Top Tier website to see which gasoline companies are listed.[14] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Top_Tier_Detergent_Gasoline#cite_note-14)
A previous standard used was the BMW Unlimited Mileage Test. BP claims to meet this. BMW now mentions Top Tier gas in its owner's manuals but not the unlimited mileage test.[15] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Top_Tier_Detergent_Gasoline#cite_note-15)
