View Full Version : How do you refer to your car?

SoarinZHP

Is it a BMW or a ZHP?

I've never referred to mine as a BMW or a 330 or a 3 series. It's a ZHP.

How do you refer to the vehicle when you talk about it with others?

I guess I should specify outside of the mafia...

anytime someone asks me what type of bimmer it is, i just say "330"

don't really care enough to explain the ZHP package to n00bs/non car people. if you know, you know.

If they know it's a ZHP, I say ZHP. If not, 330, 3-series, or BMW is what I use.

Mine is the first and only BMW in the family. So I simply refer to her as the Bimmer...

Mine is typically "the ZHP", or when I'm around proper company, I'll call her by her name ('Echo').

She....simply she or her. Like what I said today when walking to the car to go to work, "Damn she is dirty. Gonna need to clean her up over the long weekend"

I actually refer to it as the Beemer. If there are more than one, then I go 330, then finally zhp if there are more than one 330i then finally "that POS over there." :)

^usually this. When somebody asks what model it is I say "its a 330 with a special package with different wheels, bumpers, a six speed stick shift, and ten more horsepower than a regular 330", and they usually just say "ok then". Them- :blink me- :scratchinghead

With my old car it was ZHP or to a non car person, a rare performance package 330.

My new car is my BMW cause its the only bimmer in the family..for now...

Sometimes I refer to the 335 as she or her or e92 if I'm talking to someone who knows cars.

^ I would have thought it was Bimmer 1 and Bimmer 2!

I usually refer my ZHP as the "daily driver" when people ask me what I drive. When washing my car at a local car wash, I usually run into a few local BMW enthusiasts and they usually come by to talk cars with me. There's one with a very nicely modded E36 325 that he converted to an E36 ///M with the euro motor. Every detail attended to....and he tells me just how sweet my ZHP is.... makes me feel warm all over :wub

Wobz, to people who know my car (friends).
2005 BMW 330, to non-car people.
'05 BMW 330i with performance package, to car people unfamiliar with BMW.
Red ZHP sedan, to BMW enthusiasts.

It would be old bimmer and new bimmer but unfortunately i'm about to list my old ZHP for sale tonight probably. I've been trying to avoid it but have to pay off the new car!

Can you feel it?

Gretchen :) çause that's her name. (for close friends and family who know her name)

I never refer to her as a ZHP outside forum posts, because it's not a model, but an option package abbreviation.
(and in my opinion no one should refer to our cars as ZHPs (outside obvious car forums or people who what it's about), when describing them, to be exact - it's not a model - that's like saying "my BMW 330Ci cold weather package) - better to say "with the optional performance package"or some variant of that.

I never mention BMW unless totally unavoidable, and if someone asks me directly what car I own I usually say "2005 bmw 3 series"" might add çoupe or 330ci depending on if the person has potential as a car-person or not.

I always refer that "My car" is actually NOT my car. It's happened numerous times.

Random Parking Lot Guy: "Is that your car man!?!?!"

Me: "No, it's her car."

Random Parking Lot Guy: "Seriously?"

Me: "Yes.......seriously."

My ZHP was "the ZHP" to those in the know, or "the Bimmer" or "3-Series Bimmer" to the less fortunate. I always hated calling it a 3-Series, as I feel like it should refer to a base model driven by a clueless old person who is only buying the brand name.

Current M3 is "the M3" to those in the know, or "the Bimmer".

My favorite name is for my wife's car, the S6 Avant, affectionately known as "Mordwagen" (in German) or "Murder Wagon." I named it that the moment I saw it sitting on the lot for sale. When in polite company (lame), it's just "the Audi".

Me: "it's a zhp".
Them: "a what?"
Me: "a zhp. A performance version of the 3 series".
Them: "Oh, you mean, kinda like between a '3' and an 'M'?"
Me: "yeah, kinda like that. But an M is a whole 'nother deal".
Them: "oh, cool".

Either that, or "my car", or "Ness", or "the bimmer" or "the vert".

Couldn't help but laugh. Ryan must be stoked when that happens. Girls can rock kick ass BMWs as well.

I dislike referring to my car as a BMW. I feel I'm being given the stink eye when anyone finds out. Suddenly I'm that guy. There are days when I drive like that guy - but I don't want people to think I am that guy. The brand has such a stigma attached to it....

Well, with my wife we refer to hers as "the X" and mine as "the car". With anyone else, I tell them I own a BMW, and if they know BMWs, I say 3 series... To people that know more, I say "an older 330i". And if they're E46 people, I say ZHP...

When I talk to Dane, I refer to it as "the good looking one... you know, the WHITE one" :rofl

We call my car "the ZHP" and the m3 "the M". Which translates into "Bmw 3 series" for non bimmer people.

This. I get a lot of hate on the road, and I definitely notice that some people suddenly think 'douche' as soon as I tell them I drive a BMW.

Eh, the real douches are the ones that think all BMW drivers are douches.

Agreed. Even my dad thinks BMWs are driven by asshats; he was telling me this on Monday. I was like, "great."

Edit: One trick I employ to help mitigate the douche stigma is to say "an OLD bmw". After all, my car is almost 10 years old. Most MY04 cars are considered old at this point.

Around fellow enthusiasts its ZHP. Around non car people that are showing interests, its a 330 with the performance package.

I actually refer to it as the Beemer.

I know this is super nitpicky, but I present it with the best of intentions just as a little trivia tidbit you might appreciate knowing:

It's a convention that grew organically out of the BMW enthusiast community, but traditionally -- though they're both pronounced the same way -- you spell it 'Beemer' only when referring to a BMW motorcycle. You use 'Bimmer' when you're referring to a car.
