Hey guys, thought I would post some updated pics of some progress being made! While I usually like to modify my vehicles fairly quickly...this one will be slow! I am starting grad school, getting married, and just bought a house so $$$ is in somewhat limited supply!
After I got her, she got a nice washing, still need to do a nice outside detail job..what do you guys recommend to breath some new life into the paint? I changed the oil, power steering fluid, and spark plugs, air filter was changed as well. http://i242.photobucket.com/albums/ff47/ewhit26/Bmw%20ZHP/photo3-1.jpghttp://i242.photobucket.com/albums/ff47/ewhit26/Bmw%20ZHP/IMG_1230.jpghttp://i242.photobucket.com/albums/ff47/ewhit26/Bmw%20ZHP/IMG_1296.jpghttp://i242.photobucket.com/albums/ff47/ewhit26/Bmw%20ZHP/IMG_1217.jpg
I installed an aux port (man was that a B$%#!)...the nav does not come out very easy, especially the bmw tools. http://i242.photobucket.com/albums/ff47/ewhit26/Bmw%20ZHP/IMG_1297.jpgI then installed the M/// dead pedal; mine was very cracked and ugly! This thing was a pita as well..much different working on these than trucks:thumbsup I do love this in place though! http://i242.photobucket.com/albums/ff47/ewhit26/Bmw%20ZHP/IMG_1298.jpg
Some more interior pics:
http://i242.photobucket.com/albums/ff47/ewhit26/Bmw%20ZHP/IMG_1299.jpg
http://i242.photobucket.com/albums/ff47/ewhit26/Bmw%20ZHP/IMG_1295.jpg I also bought some BMW all season mats...much nicer than the factory cloth mats.
My next project was to color match the kidney grills. Im not much on chrome, especially when the car has so little on it, I think they turned out very nice!

Well thats all Ive got so far!...I would like to possibly do some other things, cooling system overhaul at some point, halos, electric fans, tune, CAI. Ive read some mixed things about tunes all over the place. I know we have a Eurocharged member dealer on the site, (from what I can gather). Have there been any definitive numbers and stats on performance improvement for autos, and what kind of price are we looking at, (Mafia discount!)? Lmk what you guys think...Im loving the car, it is so smooth and just purs the more I drive it!

Looks Very nice, I like the dead pedal :)
This is just my personal observation: body color grills makes them look tiny, as you only see the black parts (2 black holes) and the thickness of the outside grill 'frame' is diminished visually, as it's all white now. Not a good look for me personally, but this is a very subjective matter. Main thing is, you like the way it looks.
For me AW looks best with all-black grills.
btw, My plan for my AW:
wash, clay, Duragloss 501, and Blackfire Crystal Seal 2 applications.

I have a secaret crush on AW. :shift Paint refresh? I suggest getting a buffer like a porter cable 7424 and buying a two-step polish. Meguiar's 105 and 205 are good and I've also heard great things about Menzerna polishes like fast gloss and power gloss.
Washburn

I am ordering the Griots Garage 6" DA buffer soon :)
(compared to PC 7424, GG has 850w - more power, Life time warranty, 6" backing plate included, can retrofit a 3" backing plate)
my AW paint i hope is in good enough condition for a 1-step like the DG 501... we'll see.

Great looking work so far. We share a lot of very similar mods it seems! I went with the all black grills, but I like what you did, a great look. Also, in terms of detailing, go with the Griot's buffer over the Porter Cable. I just got mine in and its wonderful. I picked up a 5" pad so that I can use the Chemical Guys 5.5" pads with the hex pattern. Great products so far.

For the trans, Dinan offers a software upgrade... As for the engine, I think the tunes are basically the same for the auto/manual...

Eurocharged, a sponsor on here offers a tune. So does Active Autowerkes and a few others (Dinan, etc).

Does anyone have experience with a tune on an auto here that would like to chime in and give some real world info? Just feel of tune, mpg change+-, etc.
I have the eurocharged tune on my step ZHP. I like it for multiple reasons. The tune takes care of engine and transmission so you get the throttle response and remapping. It transformed the car into what I wished it would have been from the factory. When on the highway or around town it seems to be waiting with the power just in case I need it. I will say that the car will learn your grandpa habits over time and be sluggish but it comes back to life after you get aggressive again.
I can't comment on MPG. Mine went down significantly but because I was romping on it. They came back to normal after I drove normal. I did see a slight increase shortly after I went lower but do not know what to attribute it to - could also have been a tune up.
Another plus for me with eurocharged is retuning. I'm going to get retuned after intake and exhaust. It's also custom so if you just care about torque, want power in a certain band just let them know. There are a lot of different options out there but I wanted one that addressed the throttle response as well.

Welcome fellow ZHP slushbox owner! Be sure to check with Eurocharged as that is who will be doing my software once I finish installing a few more mods.
As for mod priorities when budgeting between school, house, and wife - your coolant system, CCV, DISA and ICV should honestly be checked out and replaced/cleaned as soon as possible. You will get peace of mind as well as fuel economy out of those far more than any software tune will give you. If I was to start over I would have done those before any of the mods I installed over the past 4.5 years.

I finally got around to doing a nice compound and polish this week. All in all the paint wasn't in to bad of condition to start with. I used the 3M perfect II line of products, got them from my dads office, he runs the Keystone/Lkq here in Baton Rouge if anyone is familiar with the company they're the largest supplier of aftermarket soft parts (hoods, fenders, radiators, lights, etc anything not meant to run the car) in the US. I also repainted my kidneys to be all flat black, I agree with you guys it's much better looking now IMO! I'm definitely happy with my purchase and love driving this car! 9719

Great looking work on the polish job! How do you like the DeWalt polisher? And where did you purchase? Can you post the backing plate size, current rating, OPM ratings, and any other details? I have ALL DeWalt power tools and I'd like to have the polisher too. Currently I have the Griots 6", which I love, but my OCD wants this one to match all my others. I know, that's completely ridiculous.

Sorry this is so late..No idea but just now seeing it. I really like the polisher, I got it from my dad, he sells not only parts, but they carry a line of polished and body work tools, and rebranded meguires car care products. Im not sure about the details of the polisher, but I took a quick pick of the label on it. Its very powerful up to 3500 rpm's. http://i242.photobucket.com/albums/ff47/ewhit26/Bmw%20ZHP/IMG_2545.jpg

So since I was off this December I was able to catch up on a few things that have been needing some attention.
-First off was a very nice oil leak, that I ended up sourcing to the OFHG. My first big takedown went well, and I replaced that gasket, and cleaned everything up. http://i242.photobucket.com/albums/ff47/ewhit26/IMG_2304.jpg
http://i242.photobucket.com/albums/ff47/ewhit26/IMG_2307.jpg
After that, I still was having a "fluid" leak I was seeing in the skid pan, I ended up finding the source, and ended up changing the power steering reservoir and hoses coming off of it as well as the return line, all with new Norma Clamps :grooving very niiiice. No more leak.
I then re-glued my saggy A-pillars.
I also got a new set a of kidneys and repainted them with better, more durable paint. I also was able to finally paint my Lower Grill....Sooo nice now. I also Installed some clear corners. I'm still waiting on some Hyper Yellow Fog bulbs to come in.

http://i242.photobucket.com/albums/ff47/ewhit26/Bmw%20ZHP/IMG_2699.jpg
Lastly I am officially EUROCHARGED, sent it off to Houston Tuesday and had it back installed Thursday. All I can say is this is what the car should have been from the factory. The throttle responsiveness and power on tap is awesome. The new 7k redline is fun to run close to as well. Not sure about mpg increase yet...:biggrin I either come mighty close or do make it to 60mph before shifting out of 2nd gear....Well thats all I have for now and probably a while since school will be resuming next week and the funds are low :(

It wasn't impossible, prolly took me 45min-1hr per carrier to remove the old bushings plus a good bit of trial and error using the ball joint press rented from autozone...The alignment is good to do after fcab change I have read elsewhere. I also haven't done one since I've owned the car, and I'm not sure when the last time it was done...also having some uneven tire wear so hope this clears it up. Thanks joop. Headers installed today! Holy hell that is a job. Glad I had a buddy to help, took roughly 7 hrs. Removal was fairly straightforward, just small spaces and tedious work. Air ratchet + many extensions and flexi adapters makes life okay (and removing passenger motor mount). Front header went in easy (after replacing all 16 header bolts). Rear header was going fine just had a hell of a time matching up the rear header flange with the mid pipe flange. It was only an 1/8 inch off or so somewhat rotated off axis and we couldn't get the holes lined up. After mutch trial and error and some cursing we got it to fit and snugged up everything else. Reinstalled all items and fired it up! It sounds great so far...of course it rained alllllllll day today. I tested it out and it has a great rumble with not much rasp. Ready for dry roads tomorrow to really let it run! Coolant system overhaul tomorrow..my knuckles need a break. http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/04/15/upa6adaz.jpghttp://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/04/15/equguzuq.jpghttp://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/04/15/5u5yju6e.jpghttp://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/04/15/u9u5ymy2.jpg

Yea I thought about that, but it was more like the flange was rotated off axis than too far apart or not lining up. I got to drive it today, although many people kept getting in my way!! Sounds good def has some rasp, and more punch! CEL finally came on
:( I'm thinking of going the AR25 route at the second resonator spot. I'll get some video soon gotta figure out how to mount my gopro.

This is the exact email from Anthony at BB when I inquired originally about the same thing.

The difference between the 2 (v1) is Gen 3 is a much better quality built header and produce the most power and torque.
I think the gen 3 is a true equal length header...im not building a race car so I don't think it matters that much IMO.

It's pretty easy honestly. On each end there is basically a peg that seats into a hole. The door is plastic so you just use a flat head screwdriver to pry it out of the hole and work it out side to side. I can take pics of it closer tom. I used the new rustoleum rubber. Basically plastidip. That was okay but when I installed the first time it got nicked. So I removed it and now I'm going flat black with a mild fill primer base coat.

Changed the transmission fluid today, along with the rear-end fluid, and motor oil. Did a complete drain, refill and drive around then re-drained, dropped the pan, filter change and refill! Got almost a full 7 qts in on the final fill. Went through a total of 10 qts today. Valvoline dexron 6 full synthetic. Plenty of sludge on the magnets. So I'm expecting it to be smooth, haven't had time to fully evaluate it. 87,200 miles

Added an H -pipe to the mix, right before the two ar25s since the stock zhp setup is basically true duals without any convergence of exhaust banks. Helps reduce some of the rasp and definitely improves the boomyness (hollowness) of the previous setup. Still some rasp, but much more tolerable and no drone at all.

Thanks man. I try to do what I can. I got a good bit out the first time I think close to 4 maybe 5? Can't remember. I did drain, refill, ran through all the gears and let it run in place for about 10 min on jack stands then did the whole pan drop filter change etc. too much work to drain it and fill and then do it all again in a months time..for me at least anyways.

Never thought I would like the Step this much after having 3 previous cars with sticks. This one is staying around for a good long while and thus I'm planning on doing (and have been doing) all the preventative maintenance that makes sense. Your list is very similar to mine. I have the thermostat, water pump, bleeder screw, and coolant to do an incremental cooling system maintenance service. But, I just don't know if I'm going to do the expansion tank now or in another year or two when I change coolant again. (Only put about 6 to 7k per year on the car).

Yea man the steps not bad in these cars! I drive mine in the manual mode most of the time...will be going real manual next car! As far as cooling I'm sure many will agree that it's just easier to replace all the cooling components at one time and only have to bleed the system once. Just my 2ยข

Had symptoms of CSB failure. Severe drivetrain vibration on hard acceleration. Can only be proved by inspection, at which point I ordered parts. Car sat in the air on jack stands for a week while I waited for parts. Giubo was okay looking but while I was in there I replaced it. Part only cost 55$.
