That was some crazy oil top ups in the middle of the month. You had to add 1 litre every ~80 miles. Is that during your track days?

How’d you like the Hankooks?

They're pretty awesome. They were a similar price to the RE-71R's, but after a 1.25-day track weekend (thanks to my car breaking down) they appear to have lots of tread left. The RE71-R's I think only made it 4 days before cording. They have fantastic grip even as you think you're approaching the limit. They do seem to like tire pressures in the mid-30's (hot) though another guy who's an 'expert' on R-S4's said that they actually perform well even into the low 40's hot. He says that the tires to like to overheat, so that's something to consider so you don't confuse the two. Personally I haven't had too much issue with the tires getting too hot despite being in the low-to-mid 30's for temperature (Celcius).

Edit: and the PFCs?

I absolutely love these pads. They have great pedal feel with good modulation characteristics. I find that I can module them pretty well as to not hit ABS, though I still hit ABS frequently enough because if you're not careful, they have an extra bite near the threshold that can send them into ABS territory. I found myself threshold braking only to get a tiny bit of extra grab at the end that made my brakes pulsate for one or two 'vibrations'. I had zero issues with brake fade (running BMW M3 euro semi-floating cast-drilled rotors and Wilwood EXP 600 brake fluid) despite the hot temperatures on track. The car isn't fast enough to really need much braking, so that's probably a factor in that.

Yeah, I had to top up a ton of times that weekend. I've never had such excessive oil consumption at the track; at most I'd usually top off once the entire weekend. I don't know what's going on, but I do know that consumption has gone back to normal now that it's just being daily driven.

Thanks for the info, BP. I’m ordering my PFC 08s as soon as Harrison Motorsports emails me back confirming my CCA discount. I know the 08 is more of an enduro pad, but as I mentioned when we were texting it’s the only pad PFC makes for these calipers.

Since I have blank rotors I’m running cooling ducts going forward. Not because I’m experiencing much fade, but because I’m trying to do everything I can not to cook and thus need to rebuild these calipers just yet lol.

Actually, they do need some love... I see a rebuild in my future. They're not really designed for the constant street use I put them through, especially for those nasty salty winters. The pad retention bridge screws are getting hard to turn due to the salty crap in the threads, and I had a hard time pushing a couple of the pistons in. Wilwood offers caliper rebuild kits, so one of those may be in my future. When that happens they may get some paint, but I do like the rugged anodized finish that stands up well to abuse, so haven't yet decided on that.

The good news is that everything Wilwood is dirt cheap. The whole caliper itself is only ~$180 with overnight shipping, as I found out the one time I had to replace one!

Their website has been a wealth of information:
https://www.wilwood.com/Calipers/CaliperProd?itemno=120-11132

BP do you have the above linked caliper on all 4 corners?

Last time I looked on UUC's site, with the 15% promo, they had all 4 corners for $1,783 for black calipers and slotted 1 piece rotors... and free shipping

Any particular reason you replaced the o2 sensors? I have some sitting in the garage to go in, but am gathering some data from the old ones to see if they're malfunctioning.

Also, how are you liking the 3.46 on the highway?

BP, did you ever get the running issues resolved?

I replaced the sensors because they were way overdue by 20k- something miles. My fuel economy was suffering big time. This, in conjunction with a fuel filter, makes the car more eager to get better gas mileage. It still sucks compared to a year ago, but that's probably due to my clogged cats. It is definitely better though now that I addressed these items.

Nope. I need catalytic converters at a minimum to restore power, and probably an engine rebuild to resolve the oil consumption. I'm going to replace the cats first to see if the power comes back. I will rebuild my motor regardless next summer. Such a long time to wait though...

What's your cat plan? Sounds like a mighty convenient time for headers...

Aftermarket headers unfortunately don't seem to be a viable option, for multiple reasons:

1) I'd have to give up the Corsa exhaust; this exhaust is way too loud with headers. This will also exceed sound limits at the tracks I frequent.
2) I have to do emissions tests for the next 10 years before my car is exempt.
3) I don't want my car to smell.
4) I absolutely hate rasp, so it can't have any. Want it to sound exactly the way it does now.

It is my understanding that I can't meet all of this criteria if I do aftermarket headers. I'd like to know my options that involve keeping the Corsa and not making my ears bleed and have it sound like crap.

I will also say that I haven't researched it too much yet...

Man I hear ya. I have the exact same list of demands in a header. I have researched the ever loving piss out of catted options and settled on probably the cheapest, but most time consuming route of OE M3 headers modified to fit.

Here are two links with more info. Like I said, it's not easy, but I'm really excited about the project.

So far I've obtained a set of headers for $50 and these flanges to mate them to (big thanks to gogators for figuring out how hard it was to use OE flanges):
https://www.ebay.com/itm/253008577732

Total cost right now is $185 for parts. Just gotta find someone to weld them up...

The M3 has rasp... I would imagine it would rasp with M3 headers, no?

I thought the M3’s rasp was caused by the midsection (section 2 maybe)? Idk I could be remembering incorrectly.

The headers cause it. Even on the M3.
I looked into this when I had my Corsa... even posted on several sites. There is no solution for the Corsa and headers and I wasn't willing to hack up my exhaust to find one.
The quietest setup would be the stock ZHP exhaust... still wouldn't work for BP though because there is still a hint of rasp.

Nice work BP. What is the smell with headers, more gas or more exhaust? Def agree re sound as from what I've heard, headers and Corsa would be extremely loud.

Sounds like it's headers + the OE section 1...?

https://store.activeautowerke.com/products/bmw-e46-m3-exhaust-section-1-by-bmw-tuner-active-autowerke

ThBMW Factory Section 1 with RASP like sounde Active Autowerke Exhaust SECTION 1 only comes into play if the E46 M3 already has a performance header already installed. One will experience a high smell of unburnt fuel. (due to the open exhaust w/o any catalysts) and development of a RASPY like sound of which the BMW S54 engine is notorious for with the BMW Stock Section 1 when equipped. This raspy like sound is a matter of engine sound harmonics at a specific RPM range, a sort of resonance that is very loud and noticeable when the engine is revving at or above 4,000 rpm.

This is the BMW section 1 - where the RASP like noise emits from.

Young people don't remember cars before catalytic converters so they think they smell without them :)

This looks like the very solution to this problem. I'll be texting you shortly! :thumbsup
Hopefully I can get some power back. lol

I'm sure they 'smelled' before them as well, just nobody paid any attention! lol

I don't mind the smell personally, but I find it embarrassing if my car is in any way seeming to be behind on maintenance. I do go to client's houses and occasionally give them rides, so that isn't really a cool thing if the car reeks... it was super embarrassing to drive around on my track pads. I had numerous people tell me through their open windows that my car needs brakes! :facepalm
