View Full Version : E90 Flooded

Last night my E90 335xi was ruined. I was driving home from a concert in the worst rain I have seen in a looooong time. I believe we got about 6 inches in four hours, so lash flooding was occurring. I was about 150 yards from my house, and all the street lamps were out, and it was raining so hard I could barely see. Next thing I know I'm in water up to my door handles. Water is pointing in through the door seals, and I had to crawl out the window NASCAR style to get out without really flooding the car.

Some neighbors waded out in the waist deep water to help me push it out of the middle of the street, but there was no way to completely get it out of the water. Those guys were awesome for helping me at 1:45 in the morning.

I called my roadside assistance and they said they couldn't do anything, and that I needed to call 911. I called 911 and they said there was nothing they could do and that I would just have to wait until the waters went down because no tow trucks would drive anywhere as the whole city was flooding, and the main road in and out of downtown is still completely shut down.

This morning my dad came out with a sump pump and a wet/dry shop vac. The water had gone down all the way by this time, about 11 am. He was able to tow my car the last 125 yards to my house, and we got started draining the water out. There was about 5 inches of water in the car. Took about 15 minutes to get most of the water out, but there is still water under the carpet slowly coming up. The engine is completely flooded with water.

I'm really upset about the situation, but I'm glad to have not been injured. I've started the process with the insurance company, but they said its most likely a total loss :(

They got me into a rental car right away. A 2013 Chevy Cruze. Not a bad car. I have USAA insurance, and they have been great so far. I'm just bummed cause its an 09 with 46,068 miles. I'm not going to find another car with that low miles on and 09. :(

Here are some pics after we had about half of the water out

I'm really hoping they don't try to low ball me if the car is totaled. I've never had to deal with anything like this, so advice is much appreciated.

Really sorry this happened. Glad you are safe and have great neighbors. Agree on the insurance. Be sure you fight for replacement value. Don't necessarily take the first offer.

OMG! What a way to start the weekend... :( I'm glad everyone came away fine though. You've got some really caring neighbors alright, mine would've left me stranded. I'm sorry to hear it's a total loss and I'm hoping the insurance company will compensate you accordingly. All cars are replaceable. Please keep us well informed on the process, I would like to follow this.

Damn, that's harsh, brother. I will tell you this, you don't want the car anymore. Trust me. Although I'm pretty sure they will salvage it. Crossing my fingers, hoping that you get a good payout.

Hopefully enough to nab yourself a Sport Package next time around. :)

Wow, hope everything works out for you in the end. Insurance companies, for the most part, seem to be pretty fair when it comes to used car values. Salvage any mods that you can and move on. It's a shame to see such a clean car gone like that. Good Luck

Have pictures of your car ready to show the company when they physically check it out, just to show how you care about it.

damn, sorry to hear about this. my stepmom's alpine white E39 got flooded years ago, that was a damn fine car. the worst part is after she dries out, she won't look any different than before the water damage. i don't think you should try to start it tho.

Thanks guys! I will keep this thread up to date. As for starting the car...I tried after we got the water out and when I push the start button it clicks once, and never even tries to turn over.

Yes....the electrical demons that will surface will be a full blown nightmare. I hope you get a sweet payout!!

Oh no, hate to see that. Just make sure you get plenty of high value comps for your car, in writing (print them out, urls, whatever). Also, show whatever good pics you have to prove the condition. Then, under no circumstances, take the first offer. Counter with your comps. They will come up some, then they will add the tax on top of that to make the offer look better, which is OK, but technically they should offer you the real value BEFORE the tax. GL!

Thanks guys. I hope for a sweet deal on it too, but idk since I've had it for 14 months now and it's financed. I did put 3 grand down when I bought it, and it was in excellent condition before it flooded, like rolled out of the factory condition with 46,068 miles.

That is horrible! I would do some research. Find and print any local adds of like vehicles with the same mileage. Hopefully with high value. That can be used as a helpful tool should they try and low ball.

Second I wouldn't try and save it, I'd let it go. It may be a headache in the future and general rule for a flood car is if it touches the dash it's a total loss

That trim was pretty sexy haha

The water didn't make it to the dash. But they are still thinking its going to be totaled.

Just found out my payoff on the Vehicle is $29,140. It Blue Books for $30,940, and has about $1500 to $2000 in mods. I just need to find receipts.....grrrr Maybe I will come out ahead a couple thousand? meh :dunno

I've had this car for 14 months now, and I believe, off the top of my head, that I paid 37,500 when I bought it.

If you provide receipts then it should be fine. Was any recent maintenance done as well? If you have receipts for that see if they will cover it

Sorry for your loss, but I'm sure USAA will treat you right. I have been taking advantage of many of the services they offer for nearly 20 years and have been mostly pleased.

This reminds me of my old 97 Jetta GLX. I sold it to a friend and about a year later, he drove to Biloxi for a training class. Katrina hit while he was there, and that poor car was in water up to its door handles on Keesler AFB. Surprisingly, the car is still being used. He turned it in to insurance back then but apparently someone rebuilt the car because AutoCheck shows it still getting registered every year.

So talked with the adjuster today, and an auto salvage auction is coming tomorrow to tow it away, and the adjuster will be here prior to that to inspect the car. He said that due to how high the water was inside and outside, and all the other factors, that he is 99.9 percent sure its a total loss. Just finished getting all of my things out, and took the roof rack off. Kinda bittersweet.

On that note, anybody want to buy a BMW Factory roof rack for an E90?

I'm pretty sure you can fit it to the e46. You may want to keep it.

Edit: Just noticed that you have one for the e46 already...

I knew it was going to be a total loss, but just hearing the insurance adjuster say it really upset me. I didn't think I would get that upset, but that car was my baby haha

So just finished talking with the Total Loss department with my insurance company USAA, and they offered me $30,694.85

I tried to get them to cmoe up a little bit, but they wouldn't budge. All the mods and the new tires only raised the amount by 50 bucks....kinda pissed me off but whatever. I owe $29,156.94 so that means I will end up with $1,537.91 to use as a down payment on a new car plus a little more cash I have. Still sucks though I really miss that damn car! I have to have my rental car back by next Wednesday and only have two days off of work between now and then in which to buy a new car....fml :(

So when I had my accident. They kept on telling me to return my car. After it was already returned I spoke with the person who I was suppose to talk to and she extended it after the matter. Piss me off that the reps I had to talk to was telling me I couldn't extend it pass the due date. Only after I had already return it did they tell me I had a few extra days. If you don't receive the check by the day it is due back give them a call. You can't buy a car without the check which means you should be able to have the rental for a longer period. Best of luck man!

Exactly! I'm not giving up the rental until I have the money, which they are depositing into my account electronicly.
