Recently I was doing some maintenance on my car with another E46 enthusiasts and he dropped a knowledge bombshell on me. He told me that you can connect a small vacuum hose to the open port on the pcv and run it to an unused vacuum port on the back of the intake manifold to increase the amount of pull the system has and reduce the amount of oil consumed by the engine. I checked into this and tried it myself. It's reduced my oil consumption to half of what it was.

All that is involved is moving a few intake boots and connecting a vac hose. The small nipple that is usually capped, you can see it in the attached picture, is your port. The back / under side of your intake manifold will have several capped vac ports, too. Use one that matches the size of the port on the pcv and connect them.

It has seemed to work on my car and would like to hear how it works for you.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180603/ff61d950799b0c09c194c59fe47cdb9c.jpg

It's called the 02Pilot mod developed by forum member 02Pilot in this thread:

http://www.bimmerforums.com/forum/showthread.php?1629018-Oil-consumption-after-CCV-replacement/page9

BTW, 50'skid makes it 10x more complicated than it actually is. It's just hooking up a 2.5 foot piece of vacuum line.

Did they ever answer the ? about why this doesn't work for cold weather cars?

Should work just the same. May have to remove some insulation from the CCV valve to get to the port.

FYI, my result with the O2 pilot mod was: first top up lasted over 2k miles. Then it went right back down to less than 1k per top up.
The thing that really helped and is still consistently helps me get over 1500 miles per top up is switching to Shell Rotella T6 5W-40 diesel oil. This stuff is pure magic.

FYI,

Shell Rotella 5w40 diesel oil recently completely changed it's formula. The high magnesium content is gone so your mileage may vary. I'm still using it though but I never had an oil burning issue any way. You could eat off the inside of my tail pipes! :eeps
