Good day, I'm Gus and I just bought my first "BMW" a few days ago. As the title says it has an LS3 with 20k miles and a T56 Magnum. The car is really clean, new paint (original colour) and a complete M3 rear end with LSD. Im not a big fan of the 19" X5 rims that came with the car but that is easy to change. Unfortunately its winter and there is snow where I live so I will have to wait a couple of months before I can drive it. In the mean time I'm going to try to learn as much as I can about this great platform.
Cheers!!

Welcome! Very cool car, is the LS3 tweaked at all? What kind of power is it putting out?

Thanks everyone,
The engine is bone stock but was dyno tunned @ 400/400 (can't remember the exact figure) its more than enough to overwhelm my 255 :)

Future plans in the short term will be find new set of tire/wheel and enjoy as is for at least one season. Then I will make adjustments as required. To be honest plans are endless, but the budget isn't :( I want to keep the car enjoyable to take to work a couple time a week, maybe try hpde...

Very cool car. Welcome and congrats!
The LS and LSD fixes the two biggest shortcomings in the ZHP. Drool.
Can't wait to see more photos and videos when it warms up in Canuckistan!
Totally agree on the X5 wheels. Those have to go. Some VMR V710FF's in matte graphite would look gorgeous on the Alpine White car.
Cheers,
SC

it's plenty quick, especially with the shorter rear end i've got. also, removing drivetrain 'losses' and getting more power to the ground has helped significantly.

gus and i met up yesterday and we got to experience each other's cars. gus hadn't driven any other E46 other than his LS-powered coupe... which i think is actually an M Sport coupe, not a ZHP, but whatever - it's nuts now! he has some sorting to do, and when it's done it will be even more of a beast than it is right now.
driving impressions: ****! this thing is fast. and the noise is outrageously grin-inducing. the torque this thing produces... when the power comes on, it just glues you to the back of the seat. it's violent. i love it... i need some LS in my life, whether it's in an E46 M Sport/ZHP chassis car, or in my montero!!
couple of pics... and a video. i'm afraid the windows were down (no A/C), so there's a lot of wind noise, and you can't hear the engine well.... just turn it up... gus is doing a pull in 2nd and 3rd here. the rear end is from an M3, so the ratios are different than a ZHP... but watch the speed build on the speedometer if you can. it's crazy.
the pics highlight the tidiness of the swap, and how far back the engine sits in the bay... 2 less cylinders to overhang there vs the M54B30. lots of room to work in there.

It was a great day trip to your place Peter, your a real bmw enthusiast and a true gentleman. Ill start by saying that your car is the definition of sorted. From the get go i was really excited about my car's power and ridiculous torque, but I wasn't convinced about the platforms ability until I drove yours. Its so confidence inspiring and rewarding to drive. There is quite a few littles things a need to sort out on mine so I will star a build thread somewhere on this forum.
Now that I'm back from my 6 mths assignment, I should have time to keep you guys updated.

likewise gus, it was great! thanks for the kind words about my car. it was definitely a labor of love (and not wise finances ;) ).
can't wait to see the progress on your car. it's going to be mega. :cheers

How are you liking the LS swap? Have you done any upgrades?
I’m considering an LS swap in my touring. Then find a home for the ts3 m54b30

The LS swap is great! Loads of torque and the e46 platform is very forgiving. The car loses a bit of its refine German car feeling and becomes a bit more raw, but that’s all good. I’m missing AC but otherwise very easy to live with. I have an Arduino device that allows the GM signal to feed the bmw gauge cluster, so that’s good. I didn’t the swap myself. I have been focusing on rebuilding all the bushing/ball joints, suspension components and RCAP reinforcement (a must). Therefore I’m not positive on how much it would cost but it’s surely more than one might think.
Go for it!!

Canada [emoji1063]...
it hits 30C here in the summertime... we have a massive temp swing, +30C to -30C. nuts.
we couldn't live without A/C in the summer... in the car. we deal without it in our house... triple-brick walls plus constant breeze = liveable.
