I discovered today that I now have some epic headliner sag and C pillar sag, I'm OCD about that so it's driving me nuts. What have you all done to fix this? http://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/14/09/01/94c7f44cd5936928803b2100b4a71611.jpghttp://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/14/09/01/8907f342f33ab933b896c255a95907f2.jpghttp://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/14/09/01/79cedf2ffb63443581d793f9a293ad57.jpg

remove the headliner replace fabric (but might could glue down old fabric)either way it will be time consuming you can get the exact fabric with foam backing (but will have to hunt the internet ) i found it to redo mine cost was like 35.00 a yard i think ( it has been a while since i did mine) but the oem anthricate fabric is important(so to match pillars and sunvisors) as far as the pillars you are just better off buying from tisher bmw they have them at a reasonable price
the glue i used was v&s 1081 trim spray

I can't say I've ever heard of an E46 with sagging headliner... until now. Weird...
How much does a new one cost? Perhaps it'd be worth getting one new?

Wouldn't it better to take to a professional like a auto upholstery?

I'm in the same boat (well, car), with serious sagging around C pillars.

Do tell us how you end up fixing it.

Will do. Update, new headliner costs 800$ which is nuts so looking at other options.

I'm thinking sharp razor blade to make an opening.

Spray glue.

Push back up.

I think the spray glue will bleed thru if you aren't VERY careful. It'll need to dry to tacky before you push the fabric onto it.

^ yes. That's how I did my A pillars. Thanks for reminding me to wait before I push it onto the glue.

I have a black perforated leather hide and a couple splits of black suede waiting for if/when my pillars and headliner start to go. Was planning to use them on my GTI before it got totaled and I picked up the ZHP.

I've recovered a few headliners. You're best off coating with hi-temp contact cement in ~1ft linear sections at a time, waiting for it to get tacky and using a roller for even pressure. If you try to glue too much, it will become very unwieldy and difficult to control wrinkles and such.

Has anyone used a syringe to inject glue into the headliner and then press it up?

Spray glue can easily end up in disaster.

I believe I tried the syringe to inject glue years ago. I didn't like the results.

I think syringe would only get small spots and might work best on tiny areas. The area OP has to tack back up is rather large.

I am thinking to make a small incision 2-3 inches, insert spray glue and cover 380 degrees inside the spot.

Wait for glue to dry some and hold a beach ball up there.

This is a job for a pro, and upholstery shops can work magic for VERY reasonable prices. Curious to hear what one would charge for this job. I'm thinking it would be super-reasonable to get done right.

800$ just for a new headliner! Going to have a fabric shop for cars do it when the car is decommissioned this winter. Around 200$ for that.
